France Takes Helm of Crisis-Ridden European Union

France took the helm of the European Union Tuesday with President Nicolas Sarkozy calling for profound change even as Poland plunged the bloc further into crisis by blocking a key reform treaty.

WHat a lousy article by the IHT. It lists some Sarkozy set backs but does not mention the Lisbon Treaty which is dead and soon to be buried. Hooray!

Sure he's visited Israel and no doubt has professed support for an attack on Iran ... but the chances of the EU ever bringing North Africa and the Middle East into Europe are slim and virtually non-existant. If Sarkozy tries to pull this off or breath life into a dead Lisbon Treaty, he is puffing against the democratic will of the people. A waste of time, space and money. Roll on the next 6 months.
