Building a reality TV show targeted directly at the youth that was government funded why?
Well if we look at what is going to happen this year we will assume the strategy of the continued purchase of digital television devices, becuase to be honest with the growth of internet devices the younger generation can watch pretty much whatever they like youtube for that matter has more than a human lifetime worth of programmes watched non stop. Surely, the quality can differ due to differing hosts and standards but if we want to watch something we want to watch whatever we like.
The introduction of my sky and being able to record things is a great addition to modern day TV watching. Programmes are no longer "programmed" for you; you have that liberty now of watching whatever is available to you whenever you like. In saying that though Sky back in "the days" never used to have ads and now they do.. You can also watch programmes from national television on the internet on demand.
Programmed programmes are not appealing to an impatient generation so even though the GC is a late catch on to the Jersey Shore related "reality" TV show, I would suspect there will be more Youth Targetted night TV programmes available for the young generation to watch. Jaime Ridge and her mother Sally understand this, and is ready to pounce with her daughter with the next reality TV show available. So you have at least a semi celebrity living vicariously through her daughter pushing the idea along.
I think they are trying to cash in on the idea of digital television before its obsolescence, with digital devices and the rate of technological innovation, in 5, 10, 20 years time you'll be asked to upgrade for the same shitty television.
When really it would be more useful to just pay for internet and watch and do what you like, when you like. We have hard drives that can store vast amounts of movies, so would a youngster invest in TV?
