Wikileaks embarrasses the Netherlands too

There are 1 comment on the Radio Netherlands Wereldomroep story from Nov 29, 2010, titled Wikileaks embarrasses the Netherlands too. In it, Radio Netherlands Wereldomroep reports that:

By Hans de Vreij Former Dutch foreign minister Ben Bot calls the publication by Wikileaks of messages between the US State Department and its embassies in foreign countries - "a blow for US diplomacy". The Netherlands is named 2,500 times in the messages - dubbed "cablegate" by Wikileaks - on the whistleblower's site.

To those informed this should be no surprise. However, the common reaction among those that should know (like Ben Bot, Hilary Clinton etc.), is that this is all very new and/or dangerous/embarrasing etc.

Either all these politicians do not have a clue about how the world really works or they are flat out lying.

Quote from the article;
"In many countries official representatives - ministers, high-ranking civil servants - will in future be extremely cautious when confronted by a US diplomat. They will think:'What I say now, could end up in the open in a couple of years' time. So I'll be cautious'. This is a blow to US diplomacy in the short term."

Diplomacy is clearly an institutionalized word for maffia/fascist style dealing in matters that cannot stand public scrutiny. This is not what truly open liberal democracies should be doing.

Government secracy is never a security measure; it is meant to hide the deeply immoral work of the people in power. Sure, when the secrets are exposed there is a security threat to all those involved but surely it is their own fault for participating in the first place.

I predict however that the propaganda and indoctrination of the system will make this all go away pretty fast. The governments of the rich/powerfull countries will close ranks and defend their actions as a necessary evil of some sort.

The terrorism we commit is called "Diplomacy", "Bringing democracy", "Pre-emptive strikes". We support the most horrible regimes as long as it is in our favour. Why not just admit that by committing terrorism we envoke terrorism?

I recommend reading the work of Noam Chomsky to everyone.
