'Moon rock' is just petrified wood
'Moon rock' is just petrified wood
'Moon rock' is just petrified wood

What a title!

"It's a nondescript, pretty-much-worthless stone," Geologist Frank Beunk concluded in an article published by the museum.

He said the rock, which the museum at one point insured for more than half a million dollars, was worth no more than euro50 ($70).

Wait a minute.. Only $70 for a rock that was "supposedly brought back from the moon by U.S. astronauts" and was handled by so many men like J. William Middendorf who "was treasurer of the Republic National Committee from 1965 until 1969, when President Richard Nixon dispatched him to the Netherlands" as the U.S. ambassador!

Some joke and some jokers.. I tell ya..

I suppose they could always sell it on eBay as a genuine piece of Noah's ark.

Saying that I can't see any reason why there can't be petrified wood on the Moon, if it was formed from the Earth, or meteors ejected form the Earth have impacted the Moon in the past, it stands to reason there must be petrified wood on the Moon. Of course there are also quite a few Nasa photos of rocks on Mars which look like petrified wood as well, and of course there's the asteroid belt which is said to have been a planet which exploded, what if it had trees. Well maybe petrified wood is plentiful because it grows on trees :)

it's interesting how it's automatically dismissed as fake because it's petrified wood. When there's no reason petrified wood couldn't exist on the Moon and certainly appears to exist on Mars;
http://marsrovers.nasa.gov/gallery/all/1/n/11... (see the petrified log on the right which looks like a discarded railway sleeper) Then of course there's this Mars Global Surveyor image of what appears to be a Martian forest http://ida.wr.usgs.gov/fullres/divided/m08046...
