Malaysia's foreign minister says women traveling alone abroad should be required to carry a letter from parents or employers verifying the reason for their journey, a news report said Sunday.

The foreign ministry said the aim was to curb the use of women as illicit drug couriers, but the plan was immediately condemned by women's rights groups as repressive.

Foreign Minister Rais Yatim has submitted the proposal to the Cabinet, the New Sunday Times reported. The plan is similar to requirements in some Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, where women need permission from their guardians to travel as part of Islamic principles. Read more

Another Islamic fanatic in the ministry!Damn! This rule is currently implemented in countries like Saudi Arabia and the oil-rich gulf states where women are treated lower than that of a camel....ya to them, women are nothing but sub-standard individual that ranks lower than a camel.I am for sure against such rule, the implementation of this rule is in an indirect way. denial of freedom of movement. This is a breach of civil liberties.Only sexist minister have a mindset as such....Do not vote for BN in the coming election!Let's obliterate their ruling forever..........we dun need these bastards to tarnish our country's image,we had enough of jokes to share with the world already!!!!!!!!!

I wonder why our ministers are not spending good ideas for the people in Malaysia - how to develop the country, keep a cleaner living environment, bring in more foreign investments, how to improve the living standard of Malaysian, increase the salaries for the government servants, cut down corruptions etc, instead of they spending all the afforts and time for all the rubbish things damn it! let's pull down BN on next election I fully agreed with.
