Mr. Avnery has done an incredible job in providing a history of Lebanon. I found in very accurate. It is a failing on the part of the US government that it does not understand the complexities of the Lebanese situation. Our history is marked by with failures like the 1958 invasion and the 1983 debacle in Lebanon. I am embarrassed to say that America is using Lebanon for its own insane policies in the Mideast--the neocon imperial policy. By not working with Hezbollah and Syria, we are contributing to the potential bloodshed.

The US has always treated its fair weather allies that way. Sad but true.

About the article: Duh! But of course my dear Watson. And Lebanon? What Lebanon? Whose Lebanon? Gimme a country profile of so-called Lebanon so we can have a point of reference.

this i will agree with you, but when it comes to the middle east the west always has a double standard, they always want to be seen as a bully in the middle east just to appease the jews that is why their foreign policy always ends up in failure,
take ireland for example, the I.R.A. designate as a terrorist by the west just like hezbollah.. but they have a political body just like hezbollah the west negotiated with sinn fein and reached a peaceful political settlement,,
but for hezbollah, america wount talk to them,,, direct order from the jew

The military wing of the IRA disbanded in 1998, that is why we negotiated with Sinn Fein.

Are you paraphrasing Neville Chamberlain?
