I'm sure that those who contributed to Jacksons campaign fund fully understand the importance of politicians making the journey to Israel.
It increases their 'electability'.
It helps get the jew vote AND the votes of christians who feel some kind of obligation to the jews.
Going to Israel is so much more important than going to see the pope in Vatican City.
