Sounds a bit disrespectful considering the fact what we save would only fix a few foothpaths. Were the Irish people not informed and asked permission before this decision was made?

It is about time they cut the ties with this criminal organization. 6,000 clergy pedophiles have been identified in the US alone.

So happy to hear this fantastic news. Ireland is also removing 50% of it's schools out of Catholic church control, it's a start and lets hope it doesn't stop there. A complete separation of church and state is the way forward. Also the catholic church in Ireland owns lots of land and property bought with money scrounged from Irish people, this property should be taken from the church and used for practical purposes. Well done Ireland!

Dear Donker..maybe that's the way they do it in China butwe don't just take peoples property property here because some atheists like to give the church a good old kicking when they see a good opportunity.

Hows that communism coming along then?

"some atheists like to give the church a good old kicking when they see a good opportunity"

well yes sexually abusing children, trying to protect those who sexually abuse children, not condemning nations who still deem it illegal to be a homosexual and convincing third world African countries not to wear condoms because the bible says its wrong thus leading to a HIV epidemic, would be only a few of the pretty decent to reason to attack the peodo protecting catholic church.

"hows that communism coming along then?"

LMFAO.... Yes because we still live in the 60s where "men in white coats" run around with clipboards putting people in "loony bins", you don't get out much do you?

In other news, Sony walkmen could be phased out by compact disk players in 10 years according to music industry experts.

Yes we live in a democracy. The catholic church operates as a THEOCRACY.

FACT! 10 years ago 90% or Irish catholics attended sunday mass regularily, today less that 50%.

As the younger generations come along and as the old die off, organized religion is fast fading into history in the west.

The catholic priests that buggered peoples children in their trust were protected by the catholic church, they can't be trusted, and their record of cover-up proves it.

Even if it did only fix a few footpaths,it would still be more than what the catholic church contributes to society.
