KUTA (Bali), Dec 30 (Bernama)-- The Malaysian Information Ministry is taking steps to foster closer ties between the journalists of Malaysia and Indonesia in the effort to support the respective governments' efforts to strengthen bilateral relations.

Malaysian Information Minister Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin said initiatives have been taken to establish a Malaysia-Indonesia solidarity association and a Malaysia-Indonesia journalists friendship association to enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of the two countries.

Zainuddin said Malaysia had never felt jealous of any of its progressive and prosperous neighbours and the mass media in Malaysia had never and would not undertake consistent efforts to incite the people into hating neighbouring countries.

Malaysian Information Minister Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin said the success of the large percentage of the estimated 1.8 million nationals of Indonesia and other countries working in Malaysia was based on the fact that Malaysia held to the "prosper thy neighbour" slogan in the belief that progressive, peaceful and prosperous neighbouring countries would have a positive effect on Malaysia.

"In this context, Malaysia is happy to hear news of Indonesia having boosted the confidence of foreign investors and realised an increase in the inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI)," he said.
