Indonesia's latest campaign to lure tourists got off to a rocky start after embarrassed officials acknowledged that a key slogan was ungrammatical and ordered it corrected.

'Visit Indonesia 2008. Celebrating 100 Years of Nation's Awakening' has been printed on billboards, government Web sites and emblazoned on the sides of aircraft belonging to the national airline, Garuda.

To be grammatical, the phrase 'Nation's Awakening' should be made specific, for example by preceding it with the definite article 'the' or the possessive pronoun 'our.' Another way would be to replace the noun 'nation' with the adjective 'national.' Read more

Anti-Chinese riots continue in Indonesia
In August 29, 1998, Indonesian fishermen burned a shrimp warehouse Saturday morning in a second day of rioting against ethnic Chinese in a coastal town, newspapers reported.

Also Saturday, hundreds of Indonesians gathered at a mass grave for victims of the riots that ravaged Jakarta in mid-May.

The mourners included indigenous Indonesians, ethnic Chinese and a few foreigners. They gathered at the Pondok Rangon gravesite in east Jakarta, where more than 300 riot victims are buried. Many of those present were relatives of the dead.

The event was organized by the Volunteers for Humanity, a non-governmental organization that has been caring for relatives of riot victims and investigating reports that scores of ethnic Chinese women were raped during the unrest. The ceremony marked the passing of 100 days since the riots.

Indonesia's ethnic Chinese were a particular target of the riots in Jakarta May 13 and 14, but most of the dead were looters burned to death in dozens of shopping malls in the city which were set on fire during the violence.

Human rights groups say almost 1,200 people were killed in Jakarta during the May 1998 riots.

Women's groups have said at least 168 Chinese women and girls were raped during the May riots.

But a government fact-finding team said it had not found any proof ethnic Chinese women were raped during previous riots, Antara reported Saturday.

Women's Affairs Minister Tutty Alawiah, one of the leaders of the investigation, echoed military chiefs who said earlier this week that they had failed to find evidence of mass rapes.

"The team has been conducting an investigation for one and a half months now but has found no woman who fell victim to gang rape or who claimed to have been raped during the May riots," Antara quoted Alawiah as saying.

Human rights activists say rape victims may be unwilling to seek help because of the stigma associated with the crime and because they may view police as being corrupt.

before interfering someone else's business you should see your self.

1. how bout your racist sentiment toward chinese and indian minority?
2.how bout sabahan and serawak, beside singapore and brunei already seperated from you long ago, and indo still together until now.
