The rise of the dental holiday

Jun 1, 2009 Full story: www.news.com.au 14

AUSTRALIAN retiree Neil Glenister was left with two missing teeth after they rotted away four years ago and a quote from his local dentist of $6,000 for a bridge to replace the missing teeth.

Like a growing number of Aussies, Glenister decided to include his dental work on a South-East Asian escape and booked a two-week trip to Thailand that included his dentistry, for $4,000.

The major dental tourism and dental holiday destinations for Australians are Thailand, the Philippines and India. Since these locations are relatively close by. For dental holiday information on Thailand, including Bangkok Dental clinics and Phuket dental clinics, go to - http://smileplanners.com/ - For the USA, from California to New York it is Mexico and Costa Rica and for the UK it is Poland, Hungary, Croatia and Slovakia that are the leading dental tourism destinations.

Dentists in Thailand possess poor work ethic with little regard to patients safety.

When you need dental work you must want high quality and simply that is not going to happen in Thailand.

Thai dentists will break your teeth while doing root canals and xray too many times exposing patient to unnecessary radiation health risks.

The fact is Thai hate working on a foreigners mouth. Thai are xenophobic, they hate you but want your money so they smile and pretend but the work is poor quality.

You Vietn/Khem/Lao guys did a good job with your anti-thailand-tourism campagin, the number of visitor to Thailand jumped from 15mil to almost 20 mil already!!!!

With your new anti-thailand-dental-holiday campaign, I am afraid that our medical schools have to produce more dentists to support more tourists from around the world.

ha ha ha ...:-)

You may post this certification on your Facebook to show you friends how succesfull you are.

Only a f#ckwit would get dental shyt done while holidaying overseas.

You want to be comfortable, looking/feeling your best and most (fat) people enjoy eating while holidaying.. so why would you want to be in pain, have your mouth all swollen up and not able to eat food properly while holidaying???

Retards.

I'd say the real retards are the patients who whine that they don't have the time or money to fix there teeth and then turn around and take a exotic vacation (holiday). I acknowledge someone who spends there holiday at least attempting to take care of their health instead of getting drunk and fat and being a lazy victim expecting the tax payers to take care of their teeth. You need the government to come brush and floss your teeth for you every night?

We have patients go to Mexico for treatment. I've seen really good treatment and really bad treatment come from Mexico (like incomplete extractions and bridges built without removing the decay. And although the range of quality in America varies from Dr to Dr, I've rarely seen really bad treatment from American dentists and when I have it seemed like an isolated case for that doctor- lke he just had a bad day. But when I see really bad treatment from Mexico, it seems like the doctor messed up any area he touched.

It's hard to compete on prices when we have to deal with OSHA, CDC, minimum wage, unemployment insurance, quality lab work, business licenses, etc. We have lots more overhead to deal with.

But I have suggested to some broke patients to look into it- just dodge the bullets when you get down there.
