Mount Fuji eruption to wreak havoc on Japan

Mount Fuji, Japan's highest peak, has seen growing volcanic activity. Volcanologists warn that the mountain, which has remained idle over the past 300 years, could cause a massive catastrophe with an eruption.

Interesting.

Genroku 1703, forearc & arc.
Kanto 1923, forearc & arc.

Both crustal relaxation events with relatively small tsunami.

Fuji is located in the backarc curl near the tightening Japan alps megathrust.

Possibility of a magma filled fracture arriving from IZU-Genroku and getting through the compressed backarc to reach Fuji is relatively small.

Tohoku 2011 compressed the crust @ Fuji.

Will keep watching that space.
