Judged: 3 3 2 How do you figure we'd be adding to the domestic supply? We would merely be increasing the portion of oil we EXPORT (about 10% currently). Do you have any evidence to the contrary that this oil would in fact be held for domestic consumption? ".... because the majority of the processed oil was already scheduled for export to foreign countries. " Can you provide me ANY link that shows Keystone XL would lower domestic fuel prices as you contend? |

Judged: 2 2 2 INVESTMENT in renewable or no fossil fuel energy is paramount for this country to reduce her reliance on foreign oil. Oil is a finite resource. We've got to keep investing in research for alternative sources where the science shows real promise. The Chinese certainly are moving in that direction. Should we quit and sit on it because it costs money? Well, the reality is that we are being outcompeted for oil by China and India, and we have to find alternative solutions. Clean coal technology is a valuable investment: China leading global efforts on clean coal Source: Nature 18 April 2012 Tianjin, China Tianjin will be home to China's GreenGen coal gasification plant http://www.scidev.net/en/climate-change-and-e... China is come a step closer to capturing and storing its carbon emissions with the launch of the GreenGen coal gasification plant in Tianjin, according to a report in Nature. .......... China burns up the clean energy race, by Sunserae Smith Published : Thursday, September 27th, 2012 Region : China, United States http://www.eco-business.com/blog/china-burns-... Although China dominates in the race to be the leading global manufacturer of clean renewable energy, they are not necessarily doing the most for the environment. China, consistently pushing the clean energy market towards an economic future, was expected to be a leading developing country in negotiations at Rio+20. As they lap the United States and world economies in this race by training a skilled clean energy workforce and providing steep subsidies, more and more manufacturing companies are heading overseas. The US simply cannot compete. If the US does not demonstrate a greater sense of urgency to contrive alternative clean energy policies coupled with investment initiatives, it will fall further behind economically. |

Judged: 3 2 1 Actually, it could create a LOT more low wage jobs - cleaning up it's breaks and leaks and environmental damage: Climate Change and Extreme Weather Weren't the Only Reason to Oppose Keystone XL and Tar Sands Expansion This Summer Posted: 09/24/201 http://www.huffingtonpost.com/anthony-swift/c... ......Even as the environmental review process for Keystone XL commenced, Canadian regulators found that TransCanada had been operating the Keystone I pipeline without critical safeguards to ensure its emergency shutdown valves had power and rejected the tar sands pipeline company’s formal request ignore the problem. Meanwhile, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) released a damning report of the tar sands pipeline operator Enbridge and its role in the devastating Michigan Kalamazoo River tar sands spill. On that same week, dozens of communities throughout the United States and Canada demonstrated in solidarity in a series of We are Kalamazoo actions, recognizing that the proliferation of tar sands in North America’s pipelines pose a risk to rivers, aquifers and landowners everywhere. In August, yet another major spill on Enbridge’s Lakehead system in Wisconsin prompted pipeline regulators to initiate a review of the company’s safety practices for the entire system. |

Judged: 2 2 1 I agree with the R&D for alternative energies and clean coal technology. What you and your story fail to see the obvious in, is that Solyndra, Ener1, Firstsolar and other BANKRUPT companies were NOT R&D. They were PRODUCTION companies that got DOE loans to obama friendly CEOs and investors. It was fraud and waste, plain and simple. I used to work at Lawrence Livermore National Lab when I lived in Ca and it is places like that that need to be continuously funded. There are countless great things that come out of places like that that private companies take, refine and produce in volume. It's a whole lot better than picking winners and losers based on campaign contributors and other crony capitalism tactics. There are programs at LLNL and other gov't labs that have private businesses form a partnership to do R&D on particular technologies. And, by partnerships, I mean shared costs. The private company puts up some capital and manpower as well as uncle sam. That way, everybody has skin in the game. Remarkable things have come from these partnerships and this is a great way of achieving technological superiority. It is a WHOLE lot better than pouring money into a bankrupt business where the business has nothing to lose. BTW, what's wrong with reducing our dependency on foreign oil with increasing production IN THIS COUNTRY? We wouldn't have to worry about "China and India outcometing us for oil" if we take advantage of what we have HERE. We don't have to just focus on alternatives as a way to reduce dependency. THAT is what obama doesn't seem to understand. |

Judged: 2 2 1 China has decided to slow construction of new nuclear power plants as they study the risks and Japan has announced that their power grid will be nuclear free by 2030. Planned construction in Britain and Central Europe has also been either cancelled or suspended in the wake of the Fukushima disaster. The demand for scarce fossil fuel reserves will only increase as these economies and others try to meet their energy needs without going nuclear. Clean coal and natural gas could serve as a bridge source until newer, non-fossil based technologies that offer a more permanent solution can be developed and deployed. We could be energy independent sooner than most people think if we could just get over this "oil is the solution" mentality. |

Judged: 2 2 1 October 06, 2012 Editor, the Record: I read that Rep. Mario Scavello, R-176, is leading the "Mitt-Romney-For-Presiden t" campaign in Monroe County. Thus, it must follow, that Scavello supports the Romney far-right policies: He supports more tax cuts for the wealthy while placing the tax burden on the middle class. He supports decimating public education and replacing it with a tuition-voucher system and charter schools. He supports cutting Pell grants and Head Start. He supports eliminating Medicare as we know it and replacing it with a system that could cost seniors more money. He supports denying extended years for younger people to remain on their parents' health insurance. He supports denying health insurance to children with pre-existing conditions. He supports trampling on women's rights. And, he must believe that 47 percent of the population are "takers." |

Solyndra Sun Power Babcock & Brown Amonix Ener1 Evergreen Solar Spectrum Watt A123 Systems, just a partial list. Do you know what they have in common? All bankrupt. To the tune of 90 billion. Can Oblamer pick em or what? How much more should we allow this buffoon to invest? Another trillion? Why not a bazillion? 4 wasted years. |
