This is ridiculous. Canada was built by hard working Europeans, people who were plumbers, carpenters, electricians and risk takers. Not by risk adverse Indians looking for a soft billet in the West where a liberal government will protect them and provide welfare and medical benefits. The PR about Indians who are well educated, making big contributions to the economy are all false. One or two may in fact be assets, but by far, the large numbers of dependents are liabilities. Their educations are nearly always fake, and they take the soft jobs in the civil service usually. If they were such a boon to Canada, why is India such a basket case. Surely they could have fixed their own country, not come to Canada to drag it down.

Before and after economic reforms (labor laws mostly), the chinese people were still mostly the same people- same thinking and same behaviour. And most were not erudite economists and had not the faintest idea what their own economic policies were pre and post reform.

Same is true for any country including India. That is economic policy shapes economic success. People are the same all over the world,(mostly idiots of various degree) what ever race religion or nationality. If India govt brought economic policies like Japan or Taiwan, Indian people too would progress just as fast, for no crdit or fault of their own. We have had half reforms in 1991 (stage one), and growth rate shot up to 8-9 percent (people were the same pre and post reform enactment day). Govvernment has just announced stage two reforms, will start in weeks. If they include rational labor law reform (so mass manufacturing can happen) and cut on red tape, with FDI in infra already in, and India will jump up to a growth rate of around 13%(initially).
.
And any 'people' is always a mixed bag of individuals. Cause humans are not robots made in a factory, built to a specification.
.
But yes India did not have vast new (free) lands to play with, dig up to farm or mine. So India will have to be a lot more efficient than a Canada, Australia or USA. In the long run, that may just prove to be in China/India's advantage.
