A missed chance.
The American and Israeli embrace of Abbas and his Palestinian Authority makes genuine peace more remote. Before Oslo there was a growing Palestinian middle class in the territories that could have provided the foundation for a stable, peace-seeking civil society. Yitzhak Rabin, both before and after his 1992 election as prime minister, proposed holding internationally supervised elections in the territories for a domestic leadership that would then negotiate with Israel over establishment of a Palestinian government and disposition of the territories. But local Palestinian leaders, despite their interest in Rabin's offer, were intimated PLO threats; while Israel's Peace Movement demonstrated against Rabin and insisted he deal with Arafat as the only legitimate leader of the Palestinians. Rabin capitulated and, via the initial Oslo agreements, allowed Arafat and his associates to come from Tunis and establish the Palestinian Authority. Very rapidly, members of what had been a growing middle class, faced now with Fatah corruption, shakedowns that undermined their businesses, political intimidation, and casual violence, began to leave the territories. Those who remained, still hoping to build a future for their families in the territories, soon saw their children brainwashed, through Arafat's schools, mosques and media, into believing that the best future was to die fighting to destroy Israel. Abbas's message to his people, through the PA's vehicles of indoctrination, continues to be what it was under Arafat and differs little from that of Hamas. No chance for a resolution of the conflict.
Only by supporting the development of civil institutions that provide a foundation for a society at peace and that educate the population, particularly the young, to desire peace rather than martyrdom, can there be movement toward a resolution of the conflict. The U.S. payed lip-service to this essential truth, but its embrace of Abbas, as well as Israel's engagement with him, only drived events further from peace. Members of what had been a growing middle class, faced now with Fatah corruption, shakedowns that undermined their businesses, political intimidation, and casual violence, began to leave the territories.

They need to refer to it by the real names, the West Bank and Gaza Ghettos just like the one in Warsaw. This is deliberate by the Israelis and, you know, the world will blame the Americans. CNN reported that the Israelis made a raid today in the Ghetto shooting and killing a 14 year-old girl. Its 1944 all over again, just the roles have changed.

You are right, there is no chance until the Israelis stop stealing land and illegally resettling Jews on their stolen land. They then kill anyone who resists with reprisals raid including women and children. The we Americans take the blame for Israeli crimes.

Islam and hammas the wonderful, "helping gaza"....according to the UN!!!!!!!!!!
Muslim lovers, eat your heart out!!!

The Palestinian Petroleum Authority reached an agreement with Israel over the weekend to receive 250,000 liters of fuel after UNRWA complained that it did not have enough fuel to distribute food aid to more than 500,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

EU faults Hamas for Gaza fuel crisis

The Palestinian Authority Health Ministry also accused Hamas of blocking fuel supplies to hospitals and clinics in the Gaza Strip. The ministry said Hamas gunmen opened fire at a number of trucks that were trying to transfer fuel to the hospitals and clinics.

Eyewitnesses in Gaza City said that at least on four occasions over the past few weeks, Hamas militiamen confiscated trucks loaded with fuel shortly as they were on their way from Nahal Oz to the city.

They added that the fuel supplies were taken to Hamas-controlled security installations throughout the city.

"Hamas is taking the fuel for it the vehicles of is leaders and security forces," the eyewitnesses said. "Because of Hamas's actions, some hospitals have been forced to stop the work of ambulances and generators."

PA officials in Ramallah said Hamas's measures were aimed at creating a crisis in the Gaza Strip with the hope that the international community would intervene and force Israel to reopen the border crossings.

"As far as we know, there is enough fuel reaching the Gaza Strip," the officials said. "But Hamas's measures are aimed at creating a crisis. Hamas is either stealing or blocking most of the fuel supplies."

They pointed out that last week Hamas dispatched hundreds of its supporters to Nahal Oz to block the fuel supplies from Israel. Hamas claimed that the protest was organized by farmers and fishermen demanding an end to the blockade on the Gaza Strip.

The officials also noted that the shortage in fuel supplies has created a high-priced black market for individuals and institutions.

UNRWA workers admitted over the weekend that Hamas had prevented some fuel trucks from entering the Gaza Strip.

Hamas has also been exerting pressure on the Gaza Petrol Station Owners Association to close down their businesses so as to aggravate the crisis. Some of the station owners and workers said they were afraid to return to work after receiving death threats from Hamas militiamen and ordinary residents desperate to purchase gas and diesel for their vehicles.

How about the Palestinians "playing nice" with us?
it would cause no harm to them to learn some new rules.
