If there was a "separation of church and state" with regard to this matter we would not be discussing it in a most civil way. The people of this great state voted 61% against usurption of the term "marriage". We already know what the various churches have stated as their position. Those who think they can "vote" to change the California Supreme Court's decision are constitutionally challenged! Only an amendment to the US Constitution will overturn that decision.

Those that think that what "the majority" want is how it works also have another think coming! The Constitution protects people from "the tyranny of the majority".

Imagine if Alabamans had been free to vote on desegregation or slavery for that matter and have that vote be the deciding factor.

Back in the day, the City discriminated against the Gay Pride Parade by imposing expensive security and insurance requirements that far exceeded what was required of other events and festivals. It took years of litigation to convince the City to see the error of its ways.
