I think it goes beyond the ceremony.... WAAAAY beyond the ceremony.

It has to do with the legalities that only apply to married people, like healthcare decisions and death benefits, insurance coverage, etc.

A ceremony doesn't have to be anything big and extravagant, but it gives legality to your union and would be recognised by the state.

WTG on 7 1/2 years together, though.

Oh, and as an aside... I also believe that the "sanctity" of marriage was tarnished LONG before Gay marriage started cropping up... almost 50% of straight marriages end up in divorce, quicky weddings at tacky Vegas wedding chapels, etc. So don't blame the Gays because marriage is tarnished!

I agree, as my sisters and brother have all been divorced, one sister divorced 3 times.
