Mattel's sales decrease wasn't from a lack of customer desire. It was mainly due to lack of product on store's shelves during most of December. Both Walmart and especially Toysrus failed to keep Barbie and other Mattel items in stock. Often the advertised items like the Dreamhouse and others were out when the ad began.
Either Mattel did make enough or the retailers did not buy enough.
