The blanket, an all-purpose plaything as well as a comfort for generations of thumb-suckers like Charlie Brown's best friend from the "Peanuts" comic-strip, has landed in upstate New York's National Toy Hall of Fame, along with Hot Wheels and the dollhouse.

If cardboard boxes and sticks made the cut, they better add empty thread spools to the list. We made every thing from those when I was a kid,.. spinning tops, hammer sticks, car wheels, doll furniture, ... you name, a kid could find empty spools to make it.

I never had a special blanket, nor did any of my kids, so I can't relate.

I always just wanted an OSCAR MEYER WEINER WHISTLES. They came free with every pack of those weiners. But they just cost too much I guess..

But I finally got me one from the Wiener mobile, that landed here a few years ago.. YAY!!

Weird the way things are. Feed 'em hamburger, make them think it's steak.. You know?

I think they were talking about unmanufactured toys, you know, things kids cling to or play with that aren't toys per se.
But in case I'm wrong, I cast my votes for hula hoop and slinky. Loved those as a kid.
