That is because you are still embedded in the words.
Move past the words and understand their meanings.
Answer me this....what do these words mean to you?
"those who believe in him should not perish"
It means that those who believe He is Who He says He is, and believes He meant what He said, and consequently obey Him will go to heaven.
That is the short answer.

He didn't say anything that wasn't true and easily provable on this thread alone. So why the smirk?

You wouldn't be judging him, now would you, June? You?? Nah, no way. You've above all that, right?

Therefore, brethren, stand fast; and hold the traditions which you have learned,***whether by word***, or by our epistle.

That means oral traditions, as opposed to written.

1 Timothy 3:15
But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the ***church*** of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

That means the Church is the pillar and ground of the truth.

Only question is: Which one?

Following your logic, we need to trash the Word of God...most of it was written over 6,000 years ago!!!!!!
If somebody showed me I posted some lies, do you think I would continue on with that? This shows how twisted your brand of the faith is. Its completely warped.

one has to wonder what "written" language was used, seeing that "Hebrew writing wasn't even in existence until between 1200-1100 BCE, and so far, no writing has ever reached much past 4000 years in our present knowledge of civilization.
Until such time as that knowledge is refuted, I have to categorize that statement as an "argument from ignorance", or an outright lie.

Where would like to start "generalizing?"

Would it be on the fact that even Protestants can't agree with other Protestants, and Catholics can't agree with other Catholics ... yet they all preach about how to live in the light and the love of "GOD?"

I have never used the phrase "the fullness of Jesus."
I have, however, used the phrase "the fullness of Faith."

My apologies. In some sense - it is the same, as you claim to have a "fullness of faith" in Jesus/"God". And even then, if you believe Jesus is "God", then the phrasing is still applicable to what you mean.

I am not obliged to believe that the gnostic writings are a reliable source to learn from, just like I am not obliged to believe that Our Lady really appeared at Fatima.

Do you know all that Jesus taught? You must since you *know* I don't believe it all.
Hmmmm...interesting tactic. How do I perceive this? As an inquiry? As a noose?

a. you don't believe that any of the non-canonical are valid.
b. You don't believe Jesus taught the things stated in those non-canonical.
c. You don't accept those texts at all.

"Do you know all that Jesus taught?"
- only that which is from those texts that are accessible

This book describes and expresses those specific teachings by Jesus, breaks them down, why they were stated, and the depth of the teachings. You should read it and then try to understand it.

Does that mean to you that the Christians that killed each other fighting over religion are sure to go to heaven?

After all, they must have all believed they were following GOD's commands.

If there is no proof of a God one way or the other, why not believe in a God?
And there are Creation stories from all around the world:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_creation...
Any one of them gives life special meaning to their believers.
However, some people would rather believe there is no God and life is just a dreary happenstance with little purpose.
And it's perfectly honest to say that if I asked God (or anyone else) for something, the choices He (or anyone else have) in response are: yes, no, or not now.
Many do...just not the "deity" others espouse as real and actual...therein lies the problem with the Abrahamics...INTOLERANCE.
It is shown in many ways. The condemnation of hell being the most arrogant of the assertions.

Are you a believer in modern Paganism?
Because of the evidence accumulated by paranormal researchers.

"Are you a believer in modern Paganism?"
- hmmmm....in what regard? Paganism covers a wide variety of beliefs.

In truth - the original definition of "paga" - was associated to 'country/rural living' or peasants:
- Origin:
1325–75; Middle English < Medieval Latin, Late Latin pāgānus ‘worshiper of false gods’, orig.‘civilian’(i.e., not a soldier of Christ), Latin:‘peasant’, noun use of pāgānus ‘rural, civilian’, derivative of pāgus ‘village, rural district’(akin to pangere ‘to fix, make fast’); see -an

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/pagan...

So in fact, if "paganism" is a religion of the rural communities, and since I've been a city-boy all my life - that will not fit my character.

Now, sicne you seem to be referrign to a more modern definition - as men of religion deemed suitable - then you will have to clarify a certain field.

To help you decide what you should respond with....I've studied each of the following for at least 3 years:
- Tarot card reading
- Numerology
- the history of magic
- Christianity's pagan roots
- Shamanism
- origins of the "new age" affiliation to religion
- martial arts
....as well as other non-secular topics, in addition to secular religions of Hinduism, Buddhism, Pre-Columbian mythology.

Go ahead - pick a topic. I'll respond if I have learned it.

Archeologists have dug up remains of ancient humans that appear ape-like in features.

Somehow I can't picture the likes of those hairy creatures riding in on a space-ship to bring their "knowledge" to earth.
