Yes, a witness to the Word of God....

But, not a witness as in an apostle...

Everyone was left to fend for themselves, with no authority to turn to for instruction.
Right?
No one was having to fend for themselves. God is with Christians. Christians are "in Christ". I have an authority to turn to for instruction (the Bible), and if those churches put in place the governing body that is found in scripture, they had Elders that met the requirements for elders and they had Deacons that met the requirements for Deacons. Those Apostles did their duty. There is no mention in scripture of them passing anything along except the faith they were instructed to teach.

Preston,

You should know me by now....I don't put my business/testimony all over this forum....it is not necessary.....

To witness means to present Christ.

What success is in witnessing???

Sharing......sharing Christ with others.....

But, the sharing is determined by the openness of a person, Preston.

They ordained others.

Cmon, man-you're putting yourself out as the bible guy here. Why am I constantly pointing things out to you that are in scripture?

Several examples in Acts.

Acts 6:6 to name one.

Whom does the Church tell us is NOT in Heaven?
One or two names will suffice.
Myself for one.

I have been exposed to the (supposed) truth of the Church, but reject it outright.

Granted, the RCC has changed its former teachings dramatically. It now allows for the salvation of Protestants and even non-Christians.

But none for former Catholics according to what I've read.

The passage does tell us that the Apostles were Christ's audience, so yes, His commission was to the Apostles only.
No, it's not a sin for us to spread the Gospel, as I've said.
I do not possess ministerial authority, so I cannot instruct others on what I personally believe scripture to mean, but I can direct people to the Gospels all day and all night.
So in the Catholic church only an Apostle can baptize.?.?

Perhaps you can simply point out which of America's founders have been relegated to the infernal regions by the Catholic Church?
That should narrow your search.
The Council of Trent, 1545 to 1563... reaffirmed the necessity of the sacraments for salvation.

To the best of my knowledge, that teaching was not changed until well after the American Revolution.

Therefore, only two or three out of slightly over 200 Founders would have had any chance of salvation. According to RCC teaching at the time, here are a few of the Founders who your church teaching confined to Hell:

George Washington

Ben Franklin

Thomas Jefferson

James Madison

My only question is -- given that the pronouncements at the Council of Trent were surely considered "perfect teachings" -- when things changed, did George Washington et al get out of Hell?

Dan, your faith paints you into a corner with its prior claims.

The RCC has made at least three very strong de fide statements that there is no salvation outside the Church; and that "no one" is saved who does not submit to Her pope?

Now it has been back-peddling on those statements, which is a good thing. The problem is that they were made "infallibly," so the RCC can't just come out and admit it was wrong.

So you and others are left to spinning and twisting words.

Is Martin Luther in Hell? Has the RCC changed its teachings on this situation in the past 500 years?

Spin, spin, spin.

Acts 6:6

6 They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them.

And what happened when the people that the apostles laid their hands on DIED???

The power DIED with them.....

Only the APOSTLES could hand it down....

being the ecclesial "fashion police", right?
This is a rebuttal:

And they wore their costumes and spent their money on and listened to their tremendous pipe organs during worship in the castles they constructed to impress people.- No - it's NOT there.
Apostacy took place rendering it man's church. A denomination. Not Christ's church.

....because you can't find any of this nonsense in the scriptures. It makes my point for me that the church you read about in scripture is not at all the current man-made Catholic church.

You have no true guide except for the men (did you notice that word, men) that tell you what you can believe and that interpret the scripture for you because obviously you folks can't be trusted with it. Please enter the Catholic church and leave your God given intelligence outside. Write checks so we can build big monuments to ourselves and buy costumes to show you how special we are.

They held common belief.
Crack open a history book.
And that's when Apostacy took shape. Not doing it God's way. Violating the instructions Paul gave us about holding to what he and the apostles had taught and not deviating. That's when you quit being the church of Christ and formed Catholicism.

Um, people get older on their own without Christ commanding it. That's probably not what He meant.
