That just means you are too lazy to investigate the matter yourself. You let others tell you what is and what ain't. Get your hands dirty. Get out of the Peanut Gallery.
Your life, your brain. Use it for yourself, or let others use it for themselves.
Bollocks, Dave. I've investigated a lot of deities.

No proof of any of 'em.

Now what?

What do you have for yours?

You invalidated your post by using "self" and "ego" interchangeably.
Language choice aside, the two are distinctly different concepts.
Put more simply, your self is not your ego.
Can you understand it that way, or do you want it spelled in phonics?
And you use "view" and "belief" interchangeably.

Catcher, so you figure out the circuitry and the mechanics.
Now what?
Who does the determining of what is real and what isn't? Don't forget those who figured out those things have one of their own doing the figuring, along with all of the other human traits.
Who does the directing in this little play?
It doesn't matter.

If you want to believe there's a director, so be it.

I don't; I credit the brain and the brain alone.

If someone wants to be saved, their first step would be to get out of Christianity.
Saved from what? Damnation? That's what a Christian means by "saved."
Buck Crick wrote:
They teach God loves mankind, right?
They say that, yes, but I make the distinction between what is given lip service and what is actually taught. Love, like courage, loyalty, and honesty, is taught by example, not words, and Christianity doesn't offer any good examples of love. The Christian example of supreme love involves torture. The love of man for god is infantile and dependent.
Buck Crick wrote:
Their holy word teaches "love keeps no accounting of wrongs", right? Then they teach that God keeps such a powerful accounting of wrongs, he had to sacrifice his only Son to clear the account. And if you do not clear that account, your penalty is the most suffering that can be imagined, right? Because of the account of wrongs that is not kept.
Yes, their bible contradicts itself. It generally "teaches" both an idea and its contradiction, by which I mean that it teaches nothing. It's really more of Rorschach test of sorts that allows you to justify whatever idea suits you by calling the scriptures that can be enlisted in your support literal and the contradictory ones metaphorical or no longer applicable.

I thought as much. I find it quite arrogant for Christians to assume they are saved, esp. when they believe in absolute assurance, regardless of their actions.
Agreed
spudgun wrote:
Maybe this explains why fundies are so objectionable, because they are unafraid of losing their "salvation".
I object to them for mostly for their sententious homophobia and atheophobia, and their antiscientific cant. Those do damage to people and to a nation. I'm not sure if that is related to a sense of being saved or not.

Have you heard of the doctrine of "Once saved, always saved"? People who believe that feel certain that they will go to heaven whatever happens.

Even without that belief, why would someone doubt his salvation if he is always in perfect accord with his god? Look at how many speak for their god, who always seems to agree with them.

Besides, a Christian generally expects forgiveness on demand. Have you ever heard of one who prayed for forgiveness and thought he didn't receive it? Given that, why would a Christian ever question his salvation. In my experience, they may question the salvation of other Christians, but not their own.

Maybe some of the Christians present can shed some light on this matter. Are any of you unsaved?

That means you are an atheist but could change to become an agnostic.

There's no such thing as an agnostic atheist. There can't be.

And now you choose to expend energy over the choice to use of the word "any" to modify proof. You don't really have a message as much as a need to be contrarian.
I've got some words you might like:
Quibberdick – an unpleasant quibbler
Mome – nitpicking critic
Snoutband – one who constantly interrupts to contradict
Breedbate – one looking for a fight
Snool - to nag constantly to drive another into submission.

If you stop being an "atheist", then you will not be an "atheist".

You have investigated every one else's deities.

Mine is whatever flipped the switch to activate this circuit I am. I don't need a face or a name. That is derived from analyzing how things are put together on my own, not words from a pulpit or the ideas of others of how I got assembled. I just do what I am to do.

Investigate that deity they call arising from random chance you currently worship and the methodologies involved.
