Atheism requires as much faith as religion? bearvspuma : The only problem with this rationalization is that ita s assuming all athiests are so because theya re intelligent in the ways of science and reasoning and all people that believe in a form of god are unintelligent.

However if you have a sphere which you described you still have whatever is outside of that sphere? Is that nothing. If so how would the nothing be described?
Why would you think there is something outside the sphere? In the example I gave, the whole universe would be the higher dimensional sphere. Why would 'nothing' need to be described?

Or blah blah blah therefore... God.

I don't know about anyone else, but since so many have begun to participate from their phones, which makes it hard to get everything perfect, as a matter of courtesy, I work a little harder than I used to in compensating for the resulting typos. That's only fair, given the number of them that I make myself... at any rate, I caught that one when I read it--the r and t are right next to each other, after all.

But some use such errors and an excuse to pounce on their perceived adversaries. I suppose that's understandable, in a way, but it does erect barriers to dialogue that could be avoided.

I find that confusing, too, but then I don't even pretend to understand four-dimensional structures.

Okay now you're just stalling, do you have observable proof for god or shall I accept your surrender?

I did not say the Boston bombers weren't Islamic.

Hey Riverside, what type of evidence would be required of he having hands? A photograph? An X-ray? A document from a doctor or a court of law? What do you require for proof?
Sure, yes, any of those would work. As long as you can prove they're your hands.

Can you do it?

You're like a broken record.
You need hands to do that.

And since you've provided no observable evidence that you have hands, I'm gonna go ahead and assume you don't have any.

Atheism reqiures no faith whatsoever.
do you even know what atheism is?
We may trust science but we have absolutely no need for faith.
Faith = belief without proof
We have proof of our beliefs(called evidence) so we don't faith.
The things that require faith we don't believe.
If you have proof of your god then you too will no longer have or need faith.
We don't believe there is no God as you cannot prove a negative. We simply lack the faith you have that one exists.
Please educate yourselves (on something other than your bible- although some could do with that too) before attacking others, your god wouldnt like that would he?
An education would be nice for you, as you don't even know what the word 'faith' means.

Faith isn't just religious faith, as you've claimed.

Faith is ALSO complete trust or confidence in someone or something.

I know atheists fear that word, but oh well.

Yes, curved space can be mind-bending at first. Also, the idea of a curved space that is not embedded in anything larger can be difficult for people to imagine.

Here's an analogy that I like:

Imagine space to be two dimensional rather than three. Furthermore, imagine it to be curved like a sphere. Now have the radius of that sphere represent *time*. So later times are larger spheres. Now, three dimensional space represents spacetime.

One thing I like about this analogy is that it makes the singular nature of the Big Bang easier to understand. The point of the Big Bang in the analogy is simply the common center of all the spheres. Notice that there is no 'center of expansion' that is actually on any of the spheres. Instead, it is a point in the past for all of them. Also, there is no 'negative radius' in exactly the same way that there is no 'before the Big Bang' in the classical model. This model is actually very similar (one dimension down) to the actual model of an expanding universe with positive spatial curvature in the classic Big Bang model.

Honestly what with all the contradictions in the bible I find it laughable anyone would think it was a book inspired by some higher being.

I find it dishonest when anyone dismisses an argument without providing an alternate view.

Condemnation before investigation.
