<quoted text>"Jesus" never encouraged genocide, that was the OT's barbaric theme.
One of the problems with the Christian religion was that it launched itself from the shoulders of Judaism, limiting the amount of progress it could achieve. The mythical Jesus tries to be better, but without explicitly condemning the OT god, it only manages to disguise the monster with a friendlier face. All the bad stuff is still there.

Which Pat Robertson?

Now let's be fair.

Yes, the Redneck hit his six-month-old baby (and smacked his wife too).

But he didn't stone the baby to death.

We have to be careful not to hurt his feeeeeelings.

Do you have a point to make?
Do you not realize that the Bible is not an authority to us?
Two profound things.

That human life first existed in one location.

That we are capable of god-like power, but dangerous in that place.

Well RR - as you already have seen.....

Just because someone was convicted of a rape, murder, etc - it doesn't always mean that the person convicted was the actual culprit.

So what would I do.....

I'm sort of partial to putting all of these folks onto a "prison island" and let them die of old age or by the hands of like persons.

But in truth, I could care less what happens.

IMO - if you can be good - I personally don't want as part of my life.

You may have a different opinion though.

I'm not all for genocide like Pat is.

It would be plausible to say that all so-called "Christians" who still donate to their churches, should be tried for supporting and aiding pedophilia....but will that happen? I guess not, huh?

Double standards are the ways of Christianity.

Try again.
"Being" atheist OR Christian has nothing to do with intelligence. Both ideologies have about the same stupid-to-smart ratio among their membership. Losing religion won't make a dumb kid suddenly smart.
And....I have yet to see any religion being taught in a public classroom.
Well, I see your reading comprehension hasn't improved.

Nowhere did I say that Christians had higher or lower IQs.

What has been happening is that overly religious school board members have been loading the textbook committees with religious ideologues that knew little to nothing about the subject they were selecting textbooks for. This was particularly true in the areas of science and history.

Bradley seemed to be complaining that not allowing Christians 100% control was discriminating against Christians.

It is the watering down of textbooks with religious and political ideology that has been harming Texas students.

And you failed to make your case. You gave us metaphorical definitions, like a priest (Father Merrin), or the founder of a field (father of modern chemistry). None make your god Jesus' father.

I agree, and it's likely in large part by design. It's an old, famous, and effective way to keep a population distracted while you're working against its interests: divide them in two and have them angrily and suspiciously pointing their fingers at one another. If you want to retool a government and rob the populace of their liberties and wealth, have them at war with each other.
Too cynical?
I dont think its to cynical. I agree.

People are so caught up in their idiologies these days, their party can do no wrong and the other party can do no right, and in the meantime Our government is doing whatever in the hell they want. Like passing an absolutely horrendous health law by lying through their teeth about the whole thing and bribing their own party to pass it.

I can hear Riverside Redneck's objection now: That wasn't literal rape or slavery. Plus it protected people - they were better off as slaves. Plus the girls father was well paid in silver - followed by some arcane discussion involving a retranslation of Hebrew using the words "clear" and "simple," a pointing to Jesus saying love one another, and finally,

calling us Christian haters that just want to make his religion look evil.
