Has anyone gotten wind of the insurance being changed on employees of the Cracker Barrel? Someome gave me an overveiw that isn't pretty. The charge to the employee for the insurance will stay about the same but they will be limited to 6 doctor visits a year. And will have a cap on prescriptions. There are quite a few older folks that have worked for the company for a long time and many have medical woes, but are good workers. Are they being singled out? Is the company offering the change to everyone or just the employees that have had a lot of claims? I don't have all the information, and am just starting to look into the problem. I can't find anything on their webside or the corporations web site about the policy they are chaing to.

Input welcome. Anyone have anything to add. Thanks. It just seems odd that they would selectively offer something to a singled out group. Sure do hope that isn't the case.

Grandma A,
What you have heard abut Cracker Barrel is right on. They sent out teasers for this new insurance that promised no deductibles, lower copays for everything, etc. I thought they would raise the premiums not what they did do.
We are allowed 7 office visits of any kind (Primary, specialist, etc) and that's it - you are on your own!
As for the perscription coverage generics are supossed to be $5.00 and the limit is $1200 per year. They don't say whether this amount is calculated from the $5.00 copays or what the medicine actually costs! Non- generics are about 3 times what we are paying now (Not brand names)
This is a slap in the face to the employees who make CB what it is! Management was not affected, of course! The new employees come in at $6.79 or above. Many of us started 9 years ago at $6.50 an hour and now after receiving 2% raises each year we still am not even earning $10.00 an hour! Then to reward our loyalty and hard work they do this to us. Interested in any and all comments pertaining to this problem of insurance.

These new insurance policies are for everyone who works in our store..not just older folks. How can women with children even benefit from 7 visits and then have to pay the rest on their own?
How about chronically ill children, those who need special medicine? I coud go on and on....

Hi Racecar6,
I can't even believe it. Except if they are expecting a 100% turnover. It is just .........you don't know me but I am speechless. It doens't compute. Of my group of friends I am seeing the doctor the least amount of times maybe 5 times last year, 2 emergency room visits to allergy reaction and possible broken him due to fall. And I am the well one in the gorup. But most of the women in my age group early 60's, have a cancer doctor, surgeon, internest, GP, and many many doctor visits, sometimes several a month. But these women work hard and give their all to CB and this is going to just really hurt. What is the option, quit? grin and bare it? go broke paying for the doctor visits needed? Gosh, it is scarey. I would love to get a hold of the insurance book given out and take a look at it. There isn't any information on CB's web page except to taut their benifits.
Be well. Hugs, Grandma

Grandma,
For most it is grin and bear it and don't go to the Dr. I asked many what they thought of the new insurance plan and they said they thought it was great! I asked them if they had read the book and not just the handout given earlier - no. I told them they only had 7 Dr. visits for the whole year and they looked at me like I was nuts...told them to go read the book! That's the sad part of this..many won't know until they get to their 8th visit.
My husband spoke to a guy at CB and he was almost reluctant to even talk about it!
I am counting my blessings as I can join Medicare as I am 68. CB's insurance at $60.00 a month with drug coverage was a better option for me in the past but not now!
I'd love to send you my booklet but for some reason(?) they are holding these tight to the vest...no extra copies as there used to be.
I'm hoping some newspaper picks up on this...I don't know why but people should know about this..but then again it could hurt jobs if people stop coming without stating a reason why they aren't coming anymore.
I guess it's just each out for themselves...so sad..it used to be a great company in spite of the ridiculously low raises for all the hard work and demands made on us.
Hugs back at you,
Racecar5

Yea , as I sit here at the computer with this pacemaker in my chest wondering when the battery will go dead or waiting for the doctor to call me back for the "scope' he,s going to do for a colon cancer check , I have to wonder what cb are thinking,,, its obviously not about the well being of their employees , not to mention the drugs I have to have every day for my graves ,, And than there,s the 10.000 dollar deductible , Yea thats right ten thousand dollars , I have been there for 8 years now , Have been late 1 time in 8 years and have never been written up , was also employee of the year , its a sad day for me and ,mine,!! I wont be promoting cracker barrel for sure and I will also be telling everyone that I see apply for a job to think hard about it, But than again I see so much "unrest " and so many employee,s leave that I really dont have to say much at all ,!!!

I didn't realize there was a $10,00 deductible with UHC or did you take another company? This 7 visit thing is a slap in the face especially for the servers who have children...they work so hard to make the rent, put food on the table and clothe their children. I know the ecomony is dismal and the stockholders are losing money but without us -loyal employees - there wouldn't be a CB. The problem right now is these gals aren't reading the book and don't know the provisions of this new policy..they only saw the flyers that came out early last month that said 'no deductibles of any kind, lower Dr visits and copays for drugs! My husband says 'union'...ya...like that's an option! I'm so sorry to hear about your severe problems and will not forget it as I talk to the employees in our store!
Take care of yourself,

It sounds like to me, that a lot of the employees don't have a clue what is coming/has come. It could break a person, especially in times like this when things are slow all the way around. Prayers for the folks at CB that have a surprise coming. I am so sorry. I guess maybe if the company was candid and just told the employees the deal it would be nice, fess up, be honest and explain the benifits. Lay it out.
Prayers,
Grandma A

yes it is screwed up , They will pay a little , a par 3 or four will get somithing like 3000 a year for surgery ,( 1500 ) I think it is for in office , When you have had a yearly total of 12.000 $$$ than your ten thousand deductible kicks in , than after your deductible they will pay up to 100,000 ,( lifetime pay) There is also a 1200 per year med cap , I dont know if that is a total of 1200 'copay" dollars or the total price of the drugs , It does not say , at any rate its pretty scary , I,m going to see if my heart doc will go ahead and change my "energizer" ( pacemaker battery) before the new policy kicks in so It will be taken care of , I,m also to have a "scope " to check for colon cancer , this month,,, thank goodness they can get me in now and not in january. The insurance is still united health care but its just a different plan ,I will be paying about 10 dollars a week MORE than I was ,( and it was supposed to save us money ) 50 dollars a week , ouch , Thats 50 cracker barrel dollars , so you know how hard that is to come by , hahahahaha anyway , everyone have a nice day , I had a long night , Night mt for 8 years now , the older I get the longer the nights get ,!!!

I fide it strange that I went to the doctor 4 times in Novmber, and 3 times December beause I was aware of the Ins. change. Guest what I just got my bills this week. Thay were all chareged to the new insurance. I have one visit left for the year. I am calling tomarrow wish me luck. I will have to pay my Ins. for the rest of the year. I always receive a $0.00 chech this Ins. is costing me $15.00 per week. Things do not look good. One person in my store has already maxed out her spripts for the entire year already, this change is not good. I wish everyone good luck.
