Yes I did know about the Creation Museum, and the flat Earthers, totally disgusting. After a complimentary tour of the creation museum by a scientist he remarked..."All thats missing here is the yaba daba doo.

Of course you're right, religion has impeded the progress of our species for thousands of years. Christopher Hitchens was right "religion poisons everything."

you have the right to explore, do scientific studies, and not accept religion. you have all the rights. so ? religion is not impeding the human progress, ok ? stop blaming religion for all your stupidity. you should be thankful that religion has the Ten Commandments for everyone to follow to live harmoniously.

So you say religion is NOT impeding human progress, really!!! You don't know much history do you?

The Pathagarians because of their superstitious view on religion kept their mathematics a secret. It was because the discovered the square root of 2 was a impractical number, so ALL of their mathematical knowledge was lost. It may have set Math back 1000 years.

Archimedies intregal calculus was lost, all of his mathematical advances and discoveries, lost forever, why? The paper it was written on was taken by the Church because they needed paper for prayer books.

The fantastic library of Alexandra and the brilliant librarian Hapatu (sp) destroyed. because of religious superstitions Hapatu was murdered and the library with thousands of books burned to the ground. This also set us back another 1000 years. If the cure for cancer is 50 to 100 years down the road, then maybe we would already have a cure if the knowledge from the library of Alexander had been available.

Even now religion attempts to block stem cell research, so do for one minute tell me religion is not and has not impeded human progress. Learn some history, before you make these uninformed statements.

Oh, we should be thankful for the 10 commandments? Really?

You do know that the first 4 commandments don't deal with us at all but with your Gods sense of vanity.

1.) No other God except me!!(I'm just so precious)

2.) No images of any other Gods (I'm just so cute)

3.) Don't take my name in vain ( I'm just so very special)

4.) Remember my holy day (It's all about me you know)

Vanity, do you really think this is a trait a God thing should have? We loath it in humans.

The rest of the commandments are all part of the golden rule, no God needed. So you see, the 10 commandments are basically worthless. Ever wonder what mankind did before Jesus showed up. We've been on the planet about 150,000 years, so what do you suppose we did for 148,000 years without the 10 commandments?

Ever wonder why there is nothing in the 10 commandments about RAPE, or child abuse. Maybe God should have replaced some of his vanity laws with: "Thou Shalt not rape." and "Thou shalt not abuse small children"

why is man able to land on the moon ? did religion stop Neil Armstrong to land on the moon ?
why is man able to find cures for certain diseases ? did religion stop scientific research from discovering some cures ?

in fact, faith and science coexist in order for patients to have fast recoveries.

Didn't you comprehend what I wrote? The word is, and you actually used it was "impeded" Religion has "impeded" scientific and medical progress. Maybe if religion had stayed out of the way we would have landed on the moon 10-20 years earlier. Maybe if religion had NOT burned the fabulous library of Alexandrea to the ground, those cures would have come much earlier and millions of lives would have been saved. Science is never stopped by religion, only impeded, thanks to those who see religion for what it is and forge ahead with research, despite the road blocks religion constantly throws in its way, as it is now doing with stem cell research.

There are some who use religious beliefs as a calming agent when they are seriously ill, a positive mindset that may in fact aid in healing and wellness, but, it has been proven that any kind of meditation will have the same effects. It's the mind and the body that are key here, not some ridiculous belief in a fictitious deity.

There are many instances of this kind of miraculous healing involving non-believers. No prayers, no thought of a higher power, no God, so how do you explain these miraculous healing's without God? God hates non-believers, or so they say.

Did you know that for Christians the worse sin of all, punishable by eternal torment in lakes of fire, is the rejection of Jesus and God? You could be the most wonderful person, loving father and husband, helping the less fortunate, but if you reject God, hell awaits you. Now, we have a child rapists. This person loves to first torture and rape his victims repeatedly before killing them in the slowest most grisly way possible. Is this person also bound for hell? Not if he is "saved" If he repents and says he is sorry for his sin's and accept the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior, he is "saved" and will spend eternity in paradise. How's that for a f-cked up religious doctrine!!!!!

actually religion has helped science. of course science is very important. but with the help of faith, a sick person can recover much faster. of course scientific achievements in finding cures help mankind a lot. here is an example of faster recovery with the help of faith.

much as they like to raise cain about it, people will never live in outer space.
there is no life up there, and people cannot live up there.
never have never will, no matter how many millions of our tax money is wasted on it.
i think America wants to conquer the Universe and wants to become The King of the Universe :) just kidding :)

here are some reasons why we explore the outer space.

I guess you don't get out much. Is your televison NOT working, are you unableto read a newspaper. Ever hear of the international SPACE STATION were people have been living in space for some years now?

The object of going to the moon was NOT to raise kids and create a colony, it was for scientific reasons, and to demonstrate that we could leave our planet for the first time ever. The technology that was developed lead to numerous advances in computer science and medical science. If you want to call advances in medicine a waste of money, be my guest, but it does make you appear very stupid for saying so.

There will be a colony on Mars within the next 20 years, countless people have already volunteered the be the first setters. You really need to get out more!!!!!!!

Please provide documentation that shows that religion has "helped" science. For 2000 years religion has done nothing but hamper scientific advancements, and now you say they are helping science? In what way? As I said any kind of personal meditation can help someone recover much faster, though not in all cases. My point, for the second time, is that any kind of meditation works, it doesn't have to have a God thing attached to it.

Research has actually proven that people who are ill do worse when they know they are being prayed for.

Religion is a man-made invention which we created in an effort to explain, and understand God – who is basically incomprehensible to our minds. That's why there are so many religions, but only one God. My take on that anyway! The great thing about discourse such as this is, it is impossible for anyone to be wrong. That is because we are talking about opinions, and opinions are never right or wrong – they just ARE. People can disagree, because opinions can be different, but one person cannot tell another person that their opinion is wrong (hey whadda ya know, I DID remember something from high school debate class 8-)
Who says there's only one god?

i copied and pasted this from someone which i think seems credible:

Also of early scientists were monks and prists, at least in europ. cause they were the only ones who were educated. So with out religion many early discoverys would not have happened. religion was mans way of explaining the earth before we knew all the details. religion created science. so science has definetly benefited from religion.

here is another copy and paste:

Totally wrong, Christianity directly helped science. In fact it is because of Christianity that science came about. Christians believe that God is a God of order not confusion. So the
universe must have identifiable rules. We looked for them and found them. Google early scientist and you will see a majority are Christians.

@ Simple Bob You are right, it was not all Christian. Others were involved but I believe a majority may have been Christian

here is another copy and paste:
I definitely think science and faith can exist. I mean if you look inside the human body how we have a liver, kidney, heart each of it has a function of it's own -- if you believe in an Intelligent Designer, it's very Intelligent with what they've done :) even cat's, dog's have hearts that our different from our own. All these species on earth -- point to a Creator.

here is another one:

Science is observation and exploration, and the logical conclusions reached based upon each. Faith is the logical conclusion that there is a reality beyond what is currently seen.

To paraphrase Albert Einstein, faith without science is blind (and stagnant), but science without faith is crippled.

If this invisible and silent God is as loving and forgiving as good Christians would have everyone believe, then there's no need to worry about Hell or any other damnation, right?
