watefer wrote: <quoted text> I know that rubbing a crystal and humming is NOT scientific. Consciousness is being aware in such a way as to distinguish between self and all other things and events. Double slit test? Simple is light a wave or a particle? Really? This is what you have come up with? I imagine you know the parameters, and the surprise that when one attempts to measure which slit the single photon goes through the interference pattern disappears. I would refer you to Heisenberg's uncertainty principle or even Schrodinger's Cat. But somehow I feel you have this need to "connect" in a spiritual nature. Fine, do so. Just don't dress it up as the new revealed scientific truth. It makes you look like a zealot. But back to aliens. As an engineering exercise what would it take to travel across the galaxy? Obviously some technology that we have yet to discover. It would also take time, lots and lots of time. While solar sails seem attractive from an energy standpoint the problem is in size vs payload as well as other things. So, it will take massive ergs and long stretches of time. For what gain? To get us to mine gold? Because a solar sail cannot carry a large enough payload to make it seem worth while there would have had to been a massive stellar transport. There would have had to been smaller vehicles to go from transport to the planet surface and back again (solar sails do NOT work at all efficiently below about 800 km altitude due to erosion or air drag). This being the case there would have to have been some artifact that would remain through the centuries. As the aliens would have had to have advanced materials something would/should remain. After all we fear that our simple plastic milk jugs will be around for thousands and thousands of years. Heck, I'll even settle for the wrapper from a galactic "Mars Bar". I do not state that there are NO aliens just that I think it unlikely that they are at all interested in us. http://s8int.com/page29.html

Just as an example. Look at the way American Indians used to explain simple things to us. Horseless carriage (car)...fire spitting snake (machine gun) come on now!

You are just pushing the question away and not answering where matter and life came from. First cause.

Ok so I'm not a believer or disbeliever. With that being said I can trust a highly educated scientist that has proof and facts over a priest and a book. There isn't one person on this planet that can factually show evidence there is a god. On the other hand there isn't a person on this planet that can prove there isn't one either. People say look at my child of course there is a god. I say no it's called sex that created your child. It's not like you prayed and poof you had a baby. Scientic things happened between to people to make a child. I prayed for a chd before and nothing happened. I believe people choose to believe in god over not only to provide comfort for themselves. To give life a meaning. To help cope with a lost one. To make it easier knowing that too they will die one day. Reading a bible wont make me believe. Going to church listening to someone won't make me believe. I used to ask god for many things and he never answered me. He didn't allow me to say goodbye to my mom before she passed away. I flew halfway around the earth and missed seeing her by 45min. What kind of god does that???? I would say I'm leaning towards the 70/30 there is no god. How can you believe in someone or something that doesn't answer you? Plus all the different religions and everyone has a different "god". Seriously. There can only be one right? I know people that don't believe in dinosaurs. I'm like are you kidding me. They don't believe in them only because it questions thier faith. Like I said I think it's a comfort.

It is quite easy to prove various gods are myth. All you have to do? Is define the god in question-- and once you define it, you automatically place attributes that can be tested. So far, all the defined gods have proven to be false ones. And nobody is willing to die for undefined god(s). Nobody. So these hardly matter at all.(no laws, either)

I gotta disagree the fossil record is pretty clear, i mean you can literally trace us back to lemurs and beyond. Aliens i think not, the distances are just too great and how would aliens get around the speed of light issue. However it is possible, just highly improbable. Oh and God does exist, science just explains how God went about it. Science and Christianity can occupy the same space.
