You can insult me, or my family, or my wife. You can call me stupid, ignorant, ugly and even say that I smell like sweaty aardvark testicles.

But do not insult my chili.

It would be rather boring don't you think??? If we all just posted..."I agree" and let it go at that.
I also wanted to let you know that I read your two posts yesterday on WSJLM.
I might have missed some responses but I noticed that the loudest anti-gays...just ignored it. I had hoped that it would have started a civil exchange.
Oh well...
Since I was under the weather a bit yesterday I crawled in bed and watched the movie that X recommended..."9". Great little movie...gives you some things to think about...at least it did me. I highly recommend it.
Here is the link to where I watched it.
http://www.movie2k.to/9-watch-movie-88879.htm...
BTW Thanks again X for the recommendation...quite an enjoyable little movie.
I agree. ;O)

Very boring. I posted that yesterday and just got off the computer, I was not sure what it would be met with. I wrote it hoping that it would start a respectful and open discussion about Christian behavior when it comes to the topic. I should have known that it would be overlooked by the ones it was directed at. Hey, at least it sounds like they did not start screaming at me. Thank you for the link, bookmarked for later. Meandering on over to WSJLM to read up.

How does a believer rationalize saying that if God doesn't want something to happen then it won't happen with saying that people have free will?

And you shake it all about
The Christian Hokey Pokey

That's what it's all about

What a strange religion.

It sounds more like Mithraism to me.

Is it not strange that Christians are obsessed with blood? They symbolically drink the stuff and imagine themselves bathing in and being cleansed by blood.

At least the Mithraists, and some early Christians reportedly used real blood.

Now Christians just pretend.

Ooh, I hope you liked it. I really dug it.

I think what I enjoyed most was the religious symbolism throughout the story.

Looks like Christians fail the test.

(This is when they insert grace, for them, of course)

I agree. I am starting to see a disconnect when it comes to believers personally, and am trying to figure out where it comes from.
I would always be interested in your findings.

I've got my opinions, but that's all they are.

I would also add that believers are not the only people who struggle with a disconnect. I attribute much of it to confirmation bias.

It's my understanding that Mithraism had a type of communion with bread and wine, a form of baptism, a form of the sacrament of Chrismation and of course the birthday of Mithras was said to be December 25th.

IÖ.hmmmm. OK, based on the postís I read prior to this one and including it, no matter how I word this you could take offense to my questioning what I do. If you do, I apologize. Can I ask you if it is nearly meaningless to you why are you responding the way that you are? Why do you imply that he is the devil, and also seem to imply that he does not slumber in warmth and love? I am truly puzzled by how this entire discussion has played out over the last few days.
Because I have a way of bringing out the best in people?

Or maybe, just maybe, something I said hit the intended target resulting in an emotional response intended to avoid rather than confront the topic of discussion

You should enjoy the rest of the exchange. I know I did.

Hi all
I am new here. Just signed up because frankly, I like to discuss contentious things like religion, politics and chili recipes.
As for the topic of the thread, I would say I am no longer a Christian simply because logic and evidence tend not to support it. I view worship of Yahweh in much the same way I view worship of other iron-age deities like Ra, Zeus, Marduk and Jupiter.
The only difference is that Yahweh's fan base tends to be larger and more tenacious.
Welcome aboard Darth.

If you have some spare time, I would encourage you to read Dearth of Couth's opening essay at the beginning of this thread.

As most here, including you, already know, you have no witnesses.

You're simply lying for your religion.

What you accomplish is proving, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that you are dishonest.

For that, we thank you.

The process is known as syncretism, incorporating elements from previous myths. In monotheism this is often followed by maligning and slandering the previous myths to convince believers that their myth is the original.

Tis the way of religion.
