That might be fun...
I think every time fundies come here spewing that which they know people don't believe in, we should throw something back we know they don't believe in.

I find the defendant innocent on all counts, except the one related to posting Keats on this thread -- probably some other threads that weren't brought to the attention of this court too.

LOL - you think just because we're pulling more troops out that the turmoil in the middle east is ending???
Fundies hate peace. It ruins your whole hope of an apocalypse that will kill everyone but you. It's an evil religion that makes you want such a thing just so you can leave the hell you have made of your own life.

I haven't read Borg's book, but I did catch this article when it came out:
http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2011/07/31/do-y...
"Many Americans are bilingual. They speak a secular language of sports talk, celebrity gossip and current events. But mention religion and some become armchair preachers who pepper their conversations with popular Christian words and trendy theological phrases.
"If this is you, some Christian pastors and scholars have some bad news: You may not know what you’re talking about. They say that many contemporary Christians have become pious parrots. They constantly repeat Christian phrases that they don’t understand or distort.
"Marcus Borg, an Episcopal theologian, calls this practice “speaking Christian.” He says he heard so many people misusing terms such as “born again” and “salvation” that he wrote a book about the practice."
I call such catchphrases kerygmata -- proclamations that are well worn, frequently doctrinal in nature, and usually recited from rote, often with little understanding.(It is a term with a long history. I did not invent it.)

Paul uses a simple one in 1 Corinthians 15:3-5:

For I delivered to you in the first place what also I received:
Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures.
He was buried.
He was raised the third day, according to the scriptures.
And he appeared to Peter, then to the Twelve.

These are not Paul's words. They represent a formula for belief that was passed around long before they hit Paul's pen.

Modern ones tend to be more complex, more focused on the finer points of doctrine., but usually less understood by members of the community that clings to them.

But, ultimately, we are dealing with mythspeak or Christian-speak, just as you noted.

The Christian gets his beliefs from the 19th century.
Might explain why he treats women the way he does.
