This is the hatred of atheism as it evolved within just minutes. This is proof that atheists are the prime suspects in mass killings.
Ahh but wasn't it churches that burnt people @ the stake?

Lol...yep. He was very subtle in his approach, I relate to him because even though he was a Christian he was still very interested in fairies, magick, elves and other 'myths', which made stupid Christians call him a heretic and pick on him and stuff but some clever Christians saw what he was doing. The 5 books depicting the beginning of Middle Earth and all it's creatures read so much like the Bible that there is no way a man could write them without intimate knowledge of the Bible. There is an interview floating around where he and Lewis talk about the stories they wrote to bring "the myth that is real" aka Bible, to the hearts of the secular world. I think they got the idea from Constantine and the Catholic church in general. Alas, I cannot find it but will keep looking.
It's rather nice to talk about something I know on topix, lol, mostly I just read, lol.

In above order:

Sartre, Khayyam, Singer.

Lewis Carroll and H.G. Wells were lefties.

Nope. Not in LOTR.

If you want to see Christian (actually Sumerian) influence in Tolkien's work, read "Ainulindale and Valaquenta" in the Silmarillion.

I think we sometimes see what we want to see. Tolkien was a Christian, but he was also much more.

The dwarves didn't come from Zacchaeus. I was making a funny.

Have you ever read the Testament of Solomon? It isn't in the Bible.

I realise that, which is why I posted his words. It's also why he's not referred to as a Writer who is a Christian and not a Christian writer. I've read 2 of his Biographies.

It is more likely to have come from The Ring of the Nibelungen, Volsungasaga and Poetic Edda, although Tolkien denied Wagner had any influence on him (perhaps afraid of being accused of plagarism).

Tolkien also mentioned to a friend, Father Robert Murray, that it was ""a fundamentally religious and Catholic work, unconsciously so at first, but consciously in the revision." Again possibly out of fear of condemnation.

However, any Christian elements are so buried in Teutonic and Celtic mythology that it one is hard pressed to find it.

Just like Jesus is buried by Greek, Roman and Persian mythology in Christianity.

I didn't follow it so I don't know.

Had to google the quote from his minister friend and how to spell Nibelungen, though.

I used to read everything by and about Tolkien.

The Silmarillion, although compiled by his son, is his best work in my opinion.
