Good stuff.
And I may be biased. I always have agreed with Evan Powell's claim that there was a longer ending to Mark, that it was redacted, and that it ended up, in modified form, as the so-called "second ending" to John, John 21, a very late addition to that gospel.
But *that* surely is a minority position.
To me, the ending at v.8 fits perfectly with the story told by the author.

I'm not downing your beliefs, but you truly don't understand the Bible then you must have read it with a closed mind.. It's not nice to criticize others beliefs if you don't understand the special grace they have received and you haven't..just saying... I'm sure you're a very nice person when not talking about others religion..

It just ain't right, huh?
No way, they should be praying to the Elder Ones, lest Cthulhu is allowed to awaken.

That is your opinion and you are entitled to it. I'm not getting into a childish slinging match again. If you think I'm a plagiarist and that I lied about it sue me, report me, whatever. I also did admit my error several times, after I read all the relevant information pertaining to your country. I also posted several links showing information on the topic. Including that to prove plagiarism you have to prove intent as well, good luck with it.
You're still playing games.

And you're not the only one.

But my preference is for a redaction.

I believe the majority position is, coming at the end, the final pages were lost -- separated from the rest of the text. Last I checked, the minority view was the gospel was intended to end at 16:8.

I disagree with both positions and side with Powell. But I admit we are in the super-minority.

Hi, I was brought up in the church although not strictly - apart from attending sunday school. I lived my life and did my own thing until I was about 23 when I discovered 'religion' in my local Baptist church which was quite charismatic - as was the experience. I felt the 'calling' and spent 3 years studying theology and religious studies at the Bible Training Institute in Glasgow (BTI). I now have a Diploma for my troubles - or should I say struggles!

Talk about being railroaded down a path that had no tolerance for deviation if it did not include concepts like evangelism or pre-destination. Talk about being railroaded down a path that had no concept of choice or opinions outside of itself.

To my thinking being pre-destined cancelled out any need for being evangelistic. Why bother if it's been pre-destined? Oh and once saved always saved also annoyed me. God is supposed to change people from the inside out - something that was in VERY short supply so far as I could see. So your saved now, lets just go ahead and do what you like because your saved now.

Anyway long story short - no really! I gave up on religion a while ago and now I feel free to be who I am and not what the congregation expect me to be.

The bible says that the whole of creation is in sin and has to be renewed - even those who have been saved. Sin and sinning will be a fact of life for EVERYONE until the end. Ultimately we won't be completely free from it until things have been made new. So if the Holy Spirit is such an all powerfull catalyst for change - what happened?

Don't get me wrong - I do not think that this view is an excuse to go ahead and do what you like either verbally or emotionally to other people. But I do think that a lot more people should have made a lot more effort to be a lot more different than they started out - especially with the holy spirit being so dynamicaly life changing.

Conclusion: Religion is an opium for the masses. Rock on Freud.

And no, I really don't care if others believe or not.. I was stating that just maybe he was reading the bible to find something wrong instead of the good..

Nothing like snow and soup (other than crock-pot chili) ;O) I have not made pea soup as I am a kitchen wreckÖWater is trying to assist me with this issue. I think that it is a genetic flaw from my Mothers side, she has a few things that she bakes/cooks that no other can replicateÖ.but when it comes to day to day cooking, not so much. I would be much obliged if you would send a recipe my way. My new oven and I seem to like one another, so I am now stretching my wings.

Just Results wrote:

If given enough time, yes. Once an atheist is fully indoctrinated, delusional, and evil like the ones you see on this forum, the hatred will eventually ooze out in the form of violence.
Is that why you said you wish I would die? Becaues the *atheists* are violent??

<quoted text> Had you read very much of this thread, you would realize that our doubts were not about 'the churches'. Our doubts were about the Bible. Maybe you can start there if you truly want to understand why people leave Christianity. I don't think any of us blamed the churches, or God for our doubts. We saw incongruities in the churches we attended, but our main focus was on why we saw something in the Bible that other Christians didn't see, and why we didn't see what they saw in some instances. It was the unanswered questions that drove us to seek more knowledge. It didn't necessarily end up where we thought it would, prayed it would, or expected it would. We ended up not believing in mainline Christianity because of the Bible. It's really just that simple.
You have not been asked many things about your religion that you have posted. So if you were truly just being quiet until asked, you would have left long ago. I'm not buying into that either.
However, Christians are always welcome here. We see the worst side of Christianity with most of the Christians who come here and the very best side with a very few who come here.
And their words are here for the life of Topix.
Im sorry to ask something like this without goin back and reading every post to find my answer, but what exactly were those questions that were unanswered that drove you to seek more knowledge, Id really like to have something to base it on. I guess Im lazy. But very in the statement you made here.
