<quoted text>Touching and real. The wonderful thing is that no one can take precious memories away from you. They can't take your personal experiences away from you. Anyone who tries to do so just lowers themselves, not you or I.
It is one of the things I enjoy about writing...the opportunity to share thoughts that trigger those memories of others. I loved reading about "W"s sh't shoveling and his love for that old tractor and your about working in the tobacco fields. I think that a person's past and what is meaningful to them gives you a better insight in to who they are now.

Most of us want to move forward in life...but the past most often gives us the direction to do so. Our paths that we follow now began with those memories that we hold so dear.

I myself was baptized, as well as I can recall, at about the age of ten.
I can remember being struck by the fact that everyone around meÖkept telling me that what I had just experienced was the most important event of my life, and that everything else I would ever do would shrink to insignificance alongside it.
ÖI remember wondering: Why donít I feel any different, myself?
It was a hollow, empty, and lonely sensation, and surprisingly so. It was not what I had expected at all.
I concluded after a time that I must not be doing something right. Everyone around me seemed so confident and secure in their faith and mine so tenuous in comparison, I felt left out. The shortcoming, I decided, must be mine. I must be missing something.
The years went by and I attended services regularly but somehow I never quite shook the uneasy sense, in the back of my mind, that I had never truly felt the presence of a transcendent being Ė Jesus, God, or anyone at all.
I was able to wound someone deeply with a well-timed and chosen, derisive remark.
I was assured that my sins were forgiven me but I became aware after a time that the targets of my derision, once hurt or offended, remained hurt or offended for a very long time.
My crisis arrived one day at a church prayer service when the minister asked us all to recall our thoughts and feelings on the day we were saved. Surely we remembered the day vividly. It was the most important day of our lives.
Then I thought, Who is it that Iíve been deceiving for the last ten years with this elaborate pretense, sitting here in this church? Who am I fooling?
Finally, struggling with my private predicament in that pew during prayer service, I knew what it was that I had to do. I came to the realization that there was only one possible course of action that seemed to offer me any degree of self-respect, and there was no other course to take, so at long last I took it. I stood and walked out.
From now on, I resolved that day, I will not stop and examine my innermost thoughts and evaluate, whether they are appropriately reverent and sanctimonious. I will admit my doubts and reservations and when people ask me
If I have to account someday for the decisions Iíve made and the actions Iíve taken, then I will.
After reading your story, itís clear to me that you were NEVER a Christian. Hereís how I know, and it should be obvious to you too, since you stated from the beginning that you didnít get it, that you believed different from what Christians believed. I condensed your remarks to the few that showed why (above).

While others feel guilt over their sins, and humbly seek forgiveness, you didnĎt.
You donít seem to be a sociopath, although you never mention loving anybody but yourself, which you did admit. You donít mention ever putting anybody elseís welfare before yours, so youíre definitely lacking something, and you do clearly admit admiring yourself from an early age. Maybe your mother drank during pregnancy, or nobody ever showed you love during your early years. I donít think youíre hopeless, but you have to stop being arrogant, worshipping your own ego, and look at how evil youíve been to others before you can humble yourself and see that you really NEED forgiveness.

People: If you are fooled by everybody who claims to be a Christian, you should worry about yourself, and question what else you fall for.
I believe most people who think theyíre Christians arenít, but they donít care enough about their own future to find out.
Thatís why this is NOT a Christian country, and why the younger generations are not mentally healthy and surviving.

Christians are sorry they sin, and work to change and live a Godly life. They know that Christ paid for their sins when He died on the cross.
What else are you falling for? Ministers who deceive and mislead others just enough so that they miss the truth too?

You know what the saddest part of this is??? That you can not even appreciate that someone would share a part of their life with you without you putting them down.....
Only when they share a story in an attempt to put me down.

Give it a rest.

You knew nothing of candling.

The story was BS to make fun of my education and intelligence.

I know - it's tough at times to face the "dismay" that you thought was "truth". I know, it is sometimes hard to reconcile, but you will. You just need pt put aside the long running fallacies that you have been immersed in.

Astonishment is right around the corner.

You might want to start by looking at the Appalachia area today. If I'm not mistaken, this is near where Annie grew up. There is still no running water, no indoor toilets, no electricity in many of these mountain homes.
But instead of taking a compassionate look at the poverty which some have had to withstand, you make fun, call them liars, and berate them as much as possible.
I was wrong. I don't think there's a thing left inside of you that is good or decent or compassionate.
Here's an article about that poverty. If it doesn't stir your hear, you're not worth talking to.

This was a beautiful statement...

"There is a lesson here that possessions, careers and carefully landscaped properties do not bring happiness. It is something that comes from within."

I remember once when my shoes were falling apart...those soles were flapping with each step that I took. I remember even more though the look of pain on my mothers face when she told me that I would have to wear them another couple of weeks...until payday.

I never really knew how poor that we were...all of our neighbors were just like us.

Remember that old saying...didn't have a pot to piss in??? LOL

I remember...life was good!
