It always boils down to threats of burning (in this life or the next) when you don't conform to their viewpoint, doesn't it?

Hell is having people on this earth who are so hate filled that they only want harm to come to those who don't believe as they do. Their mind burns up way before they could reach a physical hell, even if there was one.

When you start using historical figures in comparison with Jesus, it's your argument by default.

I don't reject the historicity of Jesus. I reject any and all claims that he was the Christ. So get your fact straight before climbing all the way to the top of the fundie bandwagon.

Maybe you should learn how to make an analogy. That would help you in your pursuit more than your vain and silly arguments.

Hannibal was not listed as a savior or any such claims of christianity.
That changes the crux of the debate and it's necessity to be able to claim any absolute.

First off lightbeamrider...I will apologize for the back and forth arguing. I forget sometimes that it is senseless to ever argue with someone that wants to justify their actions. Funny how people can read the same passage of scripture...some will find a message of love while others find an excuse to hate.

It is senseless to try to reason with the later group.

I have thought seriously about what you have said in your above post. I find it troubling...that one will use the Bible...use their faith...to justify their lack of respect or actions toward another human being.

How far will you go to show this "love" that you refer to?

Would you become physically abusive to show this "love"?

We ALL say things here in this environment that is uncalled for...that steps over the line of human decency. Not all of us do it however and then call it "God's love"...or shout "in the name of Jesus".

Jesus condensed all the commandments down to two.

Love God.

Love your neighbor as "yourself".

I find the word "yourself" to be the most interesting...

Maybe it explains that "love" that you talked about...maybe one treats themselves in the same manner that they treat others.

Before you can respect your neighbor you must first respect "yourself".

Before you can show compassion, kindness, love you must first have those same feelings toward "yourself".

You brought up the issue that this is Topix...as if no rules apply here. Maybe we should change the following to include...

I have come to consider the hell-threat as the ultimate concession. They can not come up with any other Logical input so...damn them to the hell-place...that will fix 'em...

The cool thing is...I don't damn them to anywhere...I don't have to. They are suffering in their delusion without my wishes or direction.
