It was about what we should be doing as Christians. There was no 'once saved/always saved' in any church teachings. I went to my great-grandmother's church and the message there was you better do what Jesus said or you were more damned than those who don't espouse Christianity because you're the one who made the promise.
Now, it's any old thing goes as long as you mouth the word 'Jesus' often enough. No, that's not quite true. If you say you love Paul often enough or quote him enough.
