Princess Celestia

Voiced by: Nicole Oliver

A winged unicorn who is the co-ruler of Equestria and the elder sister of Princess Luna. She rules Equestria with Luna and controls the rising and setting of the sun. For a millennium, she appears to have also controlled the moon while her sister was banished. She has a white coat with a hint of pink, though in her early toy incarnations she had a lavender body, and a pastel-colored mane and tail. She wears a gold tiara, collar and horse shoes. Princess Celestia is usually very kind, patient, and understanding, but wishes for her subjects to relax and be themselves around her. She is also sometimes mischievous, possibly in order to help her subjects relax in her presence. She has a pet phoenix named Philomena, appearing in "A Bird in the Hoof" when on the verge of death and was cared for by Fluttershy before rising again.[15]

Cutie Mark Crusaders

The Cutie Mark Crusaders are a group of three young fillies (Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, and Scootaloo) who have yet to earn their Cutie Marks, marks on a pony's flank that represents the talent or ability that makes them unique. Because of the bullying they received for not yet having Cutie Marks, such as being referred to as "Blank Flanks", they banded together to help one another earn their Cutie Marks. This leads them into antics and misadventures as they try out various harebrained schemes to see if they can achieve their goal. This is not successful, but their special talents sometimes become apparent.

While visiting Ponyville, Apple Bloom's cousin Babs Seed joins the Crusaders because she too has no Cutie Mark yet and is tired of being bullied for it. As she leaves for the return trip to her home in Manehattan, she promises to start up a branch of the club there.[16]

Apple Bloom

Voiced by: Michelle Creber

Applejack's younger sister, Apple Bloom is a yellow earth pony with a red mane and tail, red/orange eyes and wears a pink bow on her head. She has a strong Southern American accent like Applejack, but it fades when she talks to someone she does not like, or whose approval she seeks. Together with Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle, she forms the Cutie Mark Crusaders. In "The Show Stoppers", Apple Bloom appears to know martial arts and is skilled at design and carpentry, as she quickly renovates Applejack's old tree house for the Crusaders' use.[17] She also appears to be the most level-headed of the Crusaders, typically acting as the voice of reason.

Scootaloo

Voiced by: Madeleine Peters

An orange Pegasus pony with purple eyes and a magenta mane and tail.Scootaloo is the tomboy of the group; she is adventurous, brave, and opinionated. Although she cannot fly yet, she uses her tiny wings to give her extra propulsion when riding a scooter and to help her perform stunts. She can also hover to some degree for short periods. She idolizes Rainbow Dash, and presides over meetings of her fan club. In "The Show Stoppers", she has a talent for activities that require agility, such as stunt driving, dancing, and choreography, though she is oblivious that this may be her special talent. In "Sleepless In Ponyville," Scootaloo tries to put on a tough-pony facade for Rainbow Dash during a camping trip, but is in fact terrified of the fearless Dash's scary stories. When she finally breaks down emotionally and admits her fear, Rainbow Dash reveals that she too was scared when she first heard those stories as a filly, and the pair form a close sister-like bond as she takes Scootaloo under her wing to teach her how to be fearless.[17]

Sweetie Belle

Voiced by: Claire Corlett
Singing Voice: Michelle Creber

Rarity's younger sister, Sweetie Belle is a white unicorn pony with a pink and purple mane and tail and light green eyes. Sweetie Belle tends to be a slower thinker than Apple Bloom and Scootaloo, but is as excitable as them and will readily follow their lead. Though she wants to be a designer like Rarity, her inexperience and clumsiness prove to be a hindrance when she tries to assist in the shop, and when she designs set pieces for a talent show. In "The Show Stoppers", she has a talent for singing and songwriting.[17] She turns one of Fluttershy's lullabies into a rousing gospel number in "Stare Master", but prefers not to sing in public.[18] She has not yet demonstrated any ability with her horn beyond a few light sparks when she gets excited, and her attempts at cooking lead to disastrous results such as burned fruit juice and charred, liquefied toast.[19]

Babs Seed

Voiced by: Bryanna Drummond

Babs Seed is Apple Bloom's cousin. She is a dark orange earth pony with a magenta/red mane and bright green eyes. First featured in "One Bad Apple"[16] when she comes down to visit from Manehattan, Sweetie Belle, Apple Bloom, and Scootaloo invite her to join the Cutie Mark Crusaders. In fear of getting bullied for being a blank-flank (without a cutie mark), she joins the school bullies in trying to make the Crusaders' lives as miserable as possible, including destroying their float for an upcoming parade. To get revenge against her, the Crusaders build a new float and booby-trap it so that it will veer off the parade route and into a mud pit, expecting Babs to steal it. After Applejack tells them about the bullying problem Babs has had back in Manehattan, they throw her out of the float and fall into the mud themselves. Upon this, Babs realizes the error of her ways and befriends the Crusaders; they in turn forgive her and induct her into the club, and she promises to start up a Manehattan branch once she returns home. In her second appearance, "Apple Family Reunion",[20] Apple Bloom refers to Babs as her "favorite cousin".

Big Macintosh

Voiced by: Peter New

Big Macintosh, sometimes called "Big Mac," is the older brother of Applejack and Apple Bloom and a member of the Apple Family. He always wears a harness and often chews on a stalk of wheat. He lives in Sweet Apple Acres, a ranch on the outskirts of Ponyville, with Applejack, Apple Bloom and Granny Smith. He is softly spoken and has a calm and easy-going demeanor. Apple Bloom says Big Macintosh is shy. His eyes are generally half closed and he looks slightly bored, but generally accepts his surroundings. He limits his responses in conversation to "Eeyup" and "Nope", but is more articulate when emotionally excited. He is extremely strong, and is capable of laying an apple tree bare with a single buck.

Granny Smith
Voiced by: Tabitha St. Germain
Granny Smith is the oldest member of the Apple family living in Ponyville. She is the grandmother of Applejack, Big Macintosh and Apple Bloom. Due to her age, she seems disoriented and sometimes uses a walking frame. Applejack says she has a bad hip. Like Applejack, Apple Bloom and Big Macintosh, she also lives in Sweet Apple Acres. As seen in "Family Appreciation Day", as a younger pony, she and her family played a key role in the founding of Ponyville; she discovered and cultivated the unique zap apple which is in high demand when it is in season. The revenue from the zap apple allowed her farm to grow into a small community, then eventually into Ponyville. However, it was stated in the episode "Winter Wrap Up" that Ponyville existed for hundreds of years, thus bringing up questions about Granny Smith's age.[21]

Dubbed as ‘U.S. Nonproliferation Strategy for the Changing Middle East,’ the report falls short of mentioning any other Middle Eastern countries, which may be seeking a nuclear weapons program, and instead focuses heavily on the Islamic Republic of Iran. The authors of the conspiratorial report urge Washington to “undertake additional overt preparations for the use of warplanes and/or missiles to destroy Iran’s nuclear capabilities with high explosives” and “increase Iranian isolation, including through regime change in Syria and deepening Iran’s diplomatic isolation.”
Naturally, the words have been deliberately and carefully chosen in the report. By ‘overt preparations’, the authors explicitly admit that the US government has in the past used ‘covert operations’ as well i.e. assassinating Iranian nuclear scientists and infiltrating and disrupting the computer systems. Somewhere in the report, the authors unambiguously refer to Washington’s sabotage activities in Iran.

Voiced by: Brenda Crichlow

Zecora is a zebra who wears gold earrings and around either side of foreleg and neck. She lives in a hut in the middle of the Everfree Forest. Zecora speaks with an accent and always speaks in rhyme. At first, the residents of Ponyville are scared of her unique appearance and believe she is a witch who can inflict curses. They lock their doors and hide whenever she comes to town. However, Twilight and her friends soon learn that Zecora is very friendly and is also a highly skilled herbalist, and persuade the rest of the town to get to know her better.[23] She has since become a sage, or wise-woman figure, and is considered as a welcome presence. She is trusted to lead the children's Nightmare Night festivities in "Luna Eclipsed".[24] She also serves as a witch doctor.

Mayor Mare first appears in the first episode, giving a brief speech introducing Princess Celestia at the Summer Sun Celebration in Ponyville; Nightmare Moon appears in place of the princess, and when the story continues in the following episode, the Mayor commands Princess Celestia's Pegasus guards to seize Nightmare Moon, but the guards are unsuccessful.

Spitfire and Soarin'

Voiced by: Kelly Metzger (Spitfire; excluding "Sonic Rainboom"), Nicole Oliver (Spitfire; "Sonic Rainboom" only), Matt Hill (Soarin')

Spitfire and Soarin', both pegasi, are members of the Wonderbolts flight team. Spitfire, a mare, is introduced in "Sonic Rainboom" as one of the judges at the Best Young Flyers Competition, and later thanks Rainbow Dash for saving her and two other Wonderbolts (Soarin' and Misty Fly). She later attends the Grand Galloping Gala in "The Best Night Ever," and supervises the pegasus-run water transfer from Ponyville's Highland Reservoir to Cloudsdale (for weather production) in "Hurricane Fluttershy". Her most recent appearance is in "Wonderbolts Academy", in which she runs the training program for new recruits. Her demeanor in this episode is similar to that of a military drill instructor, unlike the more laid-back attitude she exhibits in earlier episodes. Soarin', a stallion, also attends the Grand Galloping Gala and panics when he drops a pie purchased from Applejack. He speaks like a surfer and admits that he always gets hungry after a performance. Soarin' makes a cameo appearance at the end of "A Canterlot Wedding - Part 2", in a photograph dancing with Rainbow Dash to the song "Love Is In Bloom".

Princess Luna

Voiced by: Tabitha St. Germain

The younger sister of Celestia, Luna is a winged unicorn who has an indigo body and a teal mane and tail. She raised and lowered the moon each night, but she becomes jealous of Celestia because the ponies sleep through the night and thus cannot appreciate her work. This jealousy eventually transforms Luna into the shadowy Nightmare Moon. As Nightmare Moon, her body is extremely dark purple with light-blue armor. Her mane and tail appearing to be made from sparkly indigo, with purple-rimmed moon dust that she can use as limbs. Celestia banishes her to the moon after she tries to bring eternal night to the world. During the pilot episode, Nightmare Moon breaks free after a thousand years and returns to Equestria on the longest day of the year, intent on carrying out her plan again. She uses her powers to hinder Twilight Sparkle and the other ponies in their search for the Elements of Harmony. Eventually, the Elements transform her back into Luna and she resumes her place at Celestia's side.

Luna returns to Ponyville during Nightmare Night, a festival similar to Halloween, with a tall and slender build, a darker coat, and a translucent-bordered mane and tail. With Twilight's help, she tries to change her public image from that of the terrifying Nightmare Moon, on which the holiday is based, to a more favorable one as Princess Luna. However, because of her outdated mannerisms and extremely loud 'Royal Canterlot Voice', her first attempts are unsuccessful, and she decrees Nightmare Night canceled. But Twilight persuades her to give Ponyville another chance. When Luna discovers that the residents enjoy being scared as part of the night's festivities, she uses the Nightmare Moon persona to help them have fun and thus gain their trust and friendship, along with overcoming her social awkwardness.[24]

Luna returns in The Crystal Empire: Part One. She is seen with her sister, Princess Celestia, as they contemplate wether or not Luna should be sent to the Crystal Empire instead of Twilight Sparkle. She seems a little bit skeptical of Twilight during this scene, as she is denied permission to carry out the mission by her sister. She possesses the ability to enter ponies' dreams and help them face their fears, as she does with Scootaloo in "Sleepless in Ponyville."

Snips and Snails

Voiced by: Lee Tockar (Snips) and Richard Ian Cox (Snails)

Snips and Snails are a pair of young male unicorn ponies who are students at the Ponyville schoolhouse. They are usually seen together. Snips is a short round pony who is very excitable and Snails is taller and thinner, and is portrayed as slower to react. The pair likes to run into trouble, such as drawing out an Ursa Minor, a celestial bear,(mistaking it for an Ursa Major) so they can see it vanquished by Trixie in "Boast Busters".[26]
