Tyra, Oprah, Michelle, etc all had their hair straightened to look like white chicks. When I grew up, women had Afros and wore them proudly. Now they either try to look like white chicks or cut their hair off altogether. What gives?

Thank you!!! Women are slaves to fashion! Whether it be mainstream or their own particular style, women are going to wear their hair all sorts of ways. I'm sorry but the person who started this thread is incredibly out of touch. Just look at history!!! Different color wigs were worn throughout history. Do you think those who wore those wigs were ashamed of their hair or maybe they just liked the style and thought they looked pretty. Marie Antoinette for example? Egyptians? Dolly Parton? Brittney Spears?(Grant it some wore wigs b/c they had to shave their heads b/c of lice...but that's another story)

I am a cosmetologist and I have a great respect for ethnic women. upkeep on there hairstyles is very demanding and truly an art...It ismuch more difficult to hold a hairstyle for a caucasian...They have so many more options for a hairstyle. I don't believe they are ashamed I'm sure it's tiresome to have to sleep a certain way to hold a hairstyle..Another thing they have to get relaxer'sand if they have braids they have to let their hair sort of rest...It is very difficultand right now afro's are not in straightining is popular in all races also shirly temple curls, blades , twists, braids micro's and several other things are popular but they need a resting period and yes lord we all are slaves to fashion unfortunetly

LOL this thread is funny..
Well all i have to say is ..no one really likes there hair..
It is not a Black or White issue..
I mean look how many white women go Blond..As if we all were meant to be Blond..
I hardly find a White woman proud to live with the hair she has been born with..
And as for Black women..Well..there hair grow slower and it is just hard to control..that would be my guess..It is just easier to have their hair straighten out and be manageable..

I wear my hair all kinds of ways, never had tried to be white though. I see white girls with braids. Does that mean they are trying to be black? Why cant people wear a certain style with out people always talkin s**t? Dont we have more important issues to worry about besides what hair style people should wear? What about the war in Iraq, the f**ked up economy, California's state budget.......ect. ect//

Black people hair come in all textures. My hair is long and wavey and I dont want to cut it so when a black women wants to wear a short due or color in her hair she will wear a weave. Its not to look white.White women dont wear corn rolls, twisties, face fits, feathered, micro braids, silky knotts. And you know white people perm and press their hair. And the fro is played out.If thats the case then you should where platform shoes and tight bellbottom pants.Do you still ask (hows it shakin)Do dress like JJ off good times?CURTIS

no matter what the style is, it all comes down to one thing: head hair is same as pubic hair, very curly

God is so unfair: why is my pubic hair in my head hair ?

95% of income: goes to styling the head hair so it won't appear like a pubic hair

blacks spend almost 90% of their entire life in beauty parlors and hair saloons, which is none of my business of course.:)

their pubic hair look alike hair is their problem, not mine.:)

I have an afro. I love afro's all that long strait weave looks tacky on black women unless they are mixed. But on black women I love either real curly hair, all braids, short or long afro's or strait short hair or strait real hair. Weaves are just to ugle and it does not look real at all.

one time, i saw a black mother in the train who kept combing her straight hair. she combed her hair about 5 times or even more. it was very obvious she was bragging to the white passengers that her hair is straight, not a curly hair. too proud, at last free from curls.

..black women are not ashamed of their hair... ok, maybe somtimes in the morning.. if it's the first time you wake up next to them... lol

My gf has her hair straight coz it's easier for her to style, and cheaper than braiding or caring for an afro all the time... I don't think it's coz she wants to look white... my point of view is.. black women know they're hotter than any other women in the universe... leave 'em alone or I'll kick your a*ses.. lol
