It is suppose to be a quiet and bonding experience..good for mom and baby. How is a noisy store or bus, at a restaurant table, or such, noiseless. As far as bonding, who does the mother want to bond with, the baby or the people walking by.

We have asked many in our store to take a chair in a less "open" area, never has one accepted the move. But, we do get a lecture, even though one chair is for that purpose.

P.S. Our store is a book store and one can easily go off in a corner, even woman's studies. Yet, they often go in the section with the most teens. Including boys. They could even go over to infant children section...but no. Adult books, non-woman, often sports seems to be the most comfortable place. What does that tell you...I'm sure it is by chance...just as I am sure their comments when asked to move are spontaneous. hahah

Breastfeeding is as natural as breathing. For someone to have a problem with it, in and of itself makes one wonder hmmm. However, I am willing to play devil's advocate.

There are some women who choose to breastfeed, that do not understand others may be around nor do they understand manners. Ladies, just because you breastfeed does not mean you have license to just pop your boob out in front of God and everyone for all to see. Yes, others can avert their eyes, but really, you don't walk around all day with it hanging out, so while you should be able to breastfeed at your comfort, there is nothing wrong with discretion. Get a tasteful blanket to cover with. They make lots of lightweight blankets in all kinds of colors, so you can even match your outfit. Okay?

However, flip side of the coin. No one asks you if you would eat your meal sitting on a toilet, so don't ask those infants to do so. If I was somewhere with my child, I would not just head off to a nasty toilet seat in the stall to feed my child. But many places that would be considered upscale have started installing "women's lounges". They are clean comfortable rooms, with comfortable couches and tables just before the restroom part. If one was available, I made use of it. Not because I felt I had to leave, but because they were always more comfortable for me and baby than those stiff backed chairs. But not all places have one, so when that happened, I would choose to discreetly cover myself with a blanket. Nothing would be seen at all, by anyone other than baby. And they weren't telling.

So I wouldn't have a problem with a woman breastfeeding, nor would anyone I know. But I would not want to just see it "all hanging out" either.

Wromg? How did a woman's breast become "dirty", vulgar, or sinful? We have strange views in America about what is right and wrong.

here! here! in america we have access to the most films and television shows, and everyone is fine with it. the fcc doesn't jump up and down every time jack bauer shoots a guy in the leg-- for national security. but if jack were a jill and took the peaceful route of flashing a bad guy for info, the would be calling for heads to roll.

why are we so uptight about nudity in america? i think that's the real issue here. people are so ashamed of their humanity and sexuality, that the answer has become "cover everything."

we're still living according to archaic grecian laws that written to keep women under wraps to keep them from becoming anything more than second rate citizens. we've come far, in comparison to muslim culture, but not far enough. nudity is nothing to ashamed of.

There is a woman who sits in the third row of my church during Saturday evening services. When her child begins to cry she breast feeds her. I have no problem with breast feeding but I do believe there is a time and place for everything. Our church has a special lounge for breastfeeding mothers and a television with live feed of the service so they will not miss anything. We have a very nice nursery also. So why does she insist on sitting in the first few rows and doing this every Saturday evening? Not to mention her baby crying is very disrupting while she prepares herself to breastfeed.

i have to ask; do you think god would have a problem with this woman feeding her child? not sound like i'm attacking you and your beliefs, but according to your religious doctorine, he designed women for that very purpose-- to give life and breast feed. isn't it just a little selfish to complain that it disrupts the service? how disrupting is it to have to get up and leave the room to watch it on tv?

I wonder how many of the antis (against public breast feeding) think that there is nothing dirty or vulgar about public smoking?

LOL. Men are ALWAYS breastfeeding during sex so if they can hack that they can hack a woman doing a necessity. Men just do it out of perverted odd lust, so what's the biggy?

Lol, this thread is funny!

I really don't see what the problem is. They're just tits! They're mamories! They're glands of fat that produce milk. They're the same as what a damn cow has. Why bother caring?

It's sad that nudity has become something purely sexual. There was a time when people could appreciate the beauty of the human body without thinking about sex. There was a time when a breast was simply a breast, not a toy.

When I have kids, I will breast-feed. I will breast-feed in public. And if I want to bring my kids to expensive restaurants (and my kids will be well-behaved, because I will raise them to be) I will. My parents brought me to restaurants from I was three years old, and I'd always eat the food from the real menu and not the child's menu, and the waiters thought i was adorable.*shrug*

And creating a life IS an accomplishment, I don't care what anyone else says. For men it takes 10 minutes. Big effing deal! For women it takes nine months. Mothers do deserve some credit.

A standing ovation. I am proud to see you ladies not laying down and taking crap from these nice, nasty people. You are 100% correct. A woman's breast are for feeding the infant, not a sex toy.

It's not....(well, maybe "dirty" if you're a perv) but it is STILL a breast and it is illegal to expose yourself. So be discreet and respecful of the law and others around you and throw a blanket over your shoulder.... how hard is that?

You know, I'm lucky... In my country it is not considered indecent exposure to breast-feed in public. It's not a part of any law here.

Oh, and it just occured to me that our arguments are the same, for different things.

You say, "It's a breast." I say "It's a breast." too, but I mean that it's just a breast. It's a body-part. Who cares? If people are uncomfortable with it, don't look.

Cuz it's not the breastfeeder's mind that's perverted - it's some of the the public.
But I would never breastfeed in public for that reason. That is, if and when I have a child.

I'm that sort of person who averts my eyes if I see someone who I think looks attractive so I wont make them feel weird.

If you think that having to see some woman pull out a bloated blue vein brest is wonderful, then you keep eating at JoJos truck stop. When I go to a restaurant, and I'm talking a restaurant not some fast food joint, that sort of behavior is not wanted or tolerated. But most importantly why does a parent seem to think that people want to see or hear a child in a restaurant in the first place, leave the kid at home, can't afford a baby sitter, don't have the kid, I don't want to see it, hear it or smell it.
It's part of life - deal with it.

Hey if expelling breast milk is alright then no one should have a problem with another part of the body expelling liquid.

Whoo hoo! Public urination and hurling in front of a bar are making a comeback!

Breastfeeding is ok in public it's natural. So if I defecate on the steps of city hall at noon time that will be alright too, because its a natural for a human being to do. Everybody poops.

Hey if no one is ashamed of showing their breast in public, then no one should be ashamed of showing other parts of their anatomy doing natural things.
