Something wrong with the spelling, "preventative"?I don't know what you mean by preventative[sic] punishment. Punishment is for crimes committed.
In my view, rapists should be imprisoned, the same as other criminals. The issue is the length of the prison sentence. Here there's plenty of room for disagreement. As an example, who would you say deserves the harsher sentence, a guy who stabs somebody (inflicting a serious physical wound) during a robbery, or a guy who fleeces a bunch of elderly widows of their lifetime savings? I could give you many more examples for comparison, and if you get 10 people together, you'll get at least 11 different opinions.
You're probably right about the opinions of everyone. We've seen it here. My take? I'd say they both deserve harsh sentences because they both did harsh crimes.
Of course that means without cable tv, Internet access, hot coffee and A/C......
