It's you who has all the charms of the ebola virus. Most of us would rather die of it than end up like you.

A nice description of antiprocessing by a confirmation bias. I collects the ideas that it hopes supports its faith based beliefs and filters out the rest.

Yep.
Let's not let LBR forget that - he's hoping we will, but he showed his limited hand. It was a nice glimpse of honesty from him, like the sun shining through the clouds. Truly, theirs is a religion of deception - somehow they mixed up Jehovah and Satan.

Why do so many people have a "god need"? Are humans hard-wired to believe in a larger than life entity?

That's a tough question. My immediate answer is that group cohesion, an identity built on us/them, is facilitated by shared worldviews and the idea that the other is not quite human, or deserves some punishment. Then you can kill them a lot easier.

It clearly cannot be universally genetically programmed, since some people reject deity based worldviews, some cultures lack them entirely and some do not have afterlives.

Therefore I think what evolved in humans was the ability to learn how the people around you understood the world around them, and produce and reproduce it.

Yep.
So it turns out the Catholics might have pedophile rates as high as 5% or more. This study claims that Catholic dioceses reporting pedophilia number 4.3%, but that number rises in certain situations - and, keep in mind, that's only if the dioceses recorded complaints about pedophiliac priests:

http://www.usccb.org/issues-and-action/child-...

It's worth pointing out that 4.3% is double what the Pope claimed and way, way, way higher than the percentage of pedophiles in normal populations.
