You must have me twisted with yourself.
What part of I am a Christian by tradition don't you get?
Just as you are.
So shame the devil and tell the truth..
I am a Christian as much as you are..

I like your take on it here, but I fear the outcome will be different. Look at how rigorously the Christians here deny Nazi Germany its Christianity. I believe American Christians will simply blame companies if they disagree with their implementation of law by saying such things as "well, those people aren't acting Christian. They're simply a bad example of an otherwise perfect religion.".
Yes, no doubt, but to what effect? We're not trying to reach the zealots, just the lukewarms and fence sitters, and to help indifferent atheists get a better sense for what this church represents.

It's the reaction of the zealots that I'm counting on here. I expect it to be ugly, selfish, and off putting to the culture at large, which is why I am anxious to see this issue get legs and remain in the news for years. I expect the Christians to keep trying to grab more, and for the culture to reject the church ever more because of it.

Because if they're told one fantasy, it's easier to believe others. Especially since churches don't encourage critical thinking.
A classic case of "believe that, and you'll believe anything".

From the moment I could read, and learned of the Ancient Greeks, I reasoned that if their gods were false, all gods were false.

When you say "lit", do you mean literature? If so you'd be wrong, and although it's a terribly bad read, there are several bibles in my house. I have a program called BibleWorks with 200 translations of the bible, also, on my drive as well(this is a short list taken from my recent documents history, and not counting my bookcase) I have:
Apocryphal Gospels, Texts and Translations
Jesus, Interrupted
Britannica Encyclopedia of World Religions
Misquoting Jesus, The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why
Cannon of the New Testament
The Anthropology of Eastern Religions
Chinese Mythology
Code of Hammurabi
Global INDEX of Religiosity and Atheism
Gospel Chronologies
Ancient Roman History
How Jesus Became God - The Exaltation Of A Jewish Preacher From Galilee
Proving History
A Handbook of Ancient Religions
A History of Religion
A Grammar Of Biblical Aramaic
Religions Of The Ancient Levant
Native North American Religions and Spiritual Practices
The Prehistory of the Mind. A Search for the Origins of Art, Religion and Science
Like I said, that's just an easily available short list I compiled for this post. There are too many to completely list here. You don't even want to know what I have bookmarked in my browser concerning these subjects.
As far as the curiosity of a child goes, you'll have to take my word on this as far as it applies to my son. When you don't teach your child about god(S) or religion(S), they don't ask about them in the early years, and if they ask during the later years, he can go to the bookcase, or choose from other books laying around, in boxes and such, and pick up anything he wants, read from anything he wants, and if he has had or does have a question, I answer, but I don't supply my view. I encourage him to form his own view, and then tell me what he has arrived at or decided.
Those times have been very few.
He also has access to any bookmarks or documents in my .pdf,.txt, epub, mobi, and .doc folders on my computer as well(around 2 gb), PLUS, he can crawl the internet himself, if he feels the need to look further than what is available here, either on my comp, bookcase, etc...
Now...
Do you think I'm forming a belief within him, or is he forming his own view?
More importantly, do you think he would have such a wide range of texts to choose from, in his house, were I a Christian?

Who knew?
YouPorn does! One of the "arguments" against homosexuality is the alleged spread of disease. Woman to woman transmission of STDs is extremely rare. Under the auspices of the nattering nabobs of negativity, lesbianism would be the default position. Hey now! I could definitely get behind that.

Agreed. It's all or nothing. Greece NY (my neck of the woods) recently gained national attention based on that. I'm sure you've read about it.
The remarkable thing about that case was not that the deluded judges confirmed their delusion by that Justice Thomas actually filed an opinion.

You are the one not figuring it out here - purposefully?
Social Darwinism is not Darwinism. Darwin himself did not agree with the concepts of Social Darwinism.
Eugenics is not Darwinism.
Why does everything have to be spelled out in full detail?? Of course when I say Hitler pushed Darwinism I mean social Darwinism.

Ugh.
