Strange, but I somehow expected you'd respond like that. Why is it that you name the one and not the other?
When someone asks you which deity you worship, you more often than not come back with a response similar to: <Ar aR> "...GOD" <==== A generic name for a deity.
Or another response similar to: <Ar aR>"...fuckoff" <====A strange name for a deity.
LMAO!!!!!!!!!!

That's only because YOU ain't got the balls ta insult them yet. If I worked with you---you'd have been knocked out a long time ago.

You advocate the teaching of "intelligent design" (creationism) alongside evolution as an elective course; yet you have not yet answered my question of, would you also advocate teaching astrology alongside astronomy, as an elective course.
Still waitin'.
Not as a HS course. Here in NY (at least in this district) the science courses aren't broken down that far. The key difference between astrology and astronomy is that astrologists don't follow the scientific method while astronomers do. In both I.D. and Evolution the scientific methods are used and peer reviewed.

I am glad you asked though because I gave some more thought to the idea of ID and Evolution as side by side elective classes. I have it all figured out. Check this out my dear.:)

I propose that both ID and Evolution be taught as a part of a packaged program, as an elective available to high school juniors and seniors. What this would entail is this:

A junior could select the "Intro to ID AND Evolution Theories" as an elective for that junior year. The first half of the year could be either evolution or ID, and then swap in the middle of the year. That way the student gets a balanced view of both. To keep either side from advocating religion or atheism, the teachers would be restricted from mentioning "God" or "atheism." Or even mentioning anything close. The entity in the ID class could be given the title of Supreme Creative Intelligent Being or "SCIB" for short. I think that would be fair.

In their senior year, they could then make their choice as to which view of science they want to pursue with no penalties other than the normal ones associated with turning in assignments late, cheating on tests, etc, etc. There would still be no mention of any particular deity or any secular worldview. Strictly science, with no philosophical views attached.

My reasoning for allowing it in the junior year is that at that time in most H.S. students lives, they're applying to colleges, choosing career paths, looking at military service, etc, etc. So if they can be making those kinds of decisions then I see no reason why they can't decide what scientific route they want to take so long as both are voluntary and neither advocates any particular worldview with respect to religion or philosophy. I've even thought of names for the courses.

If they want to learn about intelligent design we can call the course:

Supreme Creative Origins of Life : or "SCOOL" for short.

If they choose to follow the evolutionary path they will be enrolled in:

Studying Natural Origins Theory : or "SNOT" for short.

So to recap, if they want evolution they'll be immersed in SNOT.

If they choose ID they'll be attending SCOOL.

Ya like it? I think it's pretty catchy.

Damn I'm good!!:D

Well said.
Matt Dillahunty describes his path out of religion thusly:
"My only goal was to be the best Christian I could be, and represent this to people who didn’t believe. And what I found - because I actually cared about whether or not my beliefs were actually true rather than whether they felt good - was that my beliefs weren’t justified.... And when I talked to people about this, the only answer they ever offered is,‘Well, you just got to have faith.’ I don’t. Faith is not a virtue. Faith is gullibility. It’s evidence that determines whether or not your perception of reality is reasonable and in conjunction with the world as it is."
That is how you tunnel out - a commitment to truth, which is known by reason and evidence.
Your attitude makes that journey impossible for you. You no doubt think that that is good. You probably brag that your faith is strong, and that you will hold the course no matter what evidence arises, which you probably have learned to view as the work of a devil. You probably have also learned to treat whatever cognitive dissonance that may arise in your mind as the voice of the devil.
Yep.

Christians who are weak in their faith come here to seek validation from us in their attempts to impose their beliefs on us. When they fail, they blame us.

Oh well.

Or the one about your religion being founded on fear.
I guess those questions were too snarky and skeptical for you.
Kaitlin dear, I answered. And I didn't think it was too snarky. I think you love the entertainment value and enjoy employing your razor sharp sarcasm. I admit that sometimes I enjoy what you post. You have spark in ya. Not always a bad quality.:)

Now about the fear thing. You'll have to refresh my memory. I'm not going back to look as it's late and I'm tired. If you remember and want to ask, I'll answer it tomorrow. If not, that's fine too. I'm about to dig into a 700 plus page apologetics book on the resurrection of Jesus. It's pretty good. I'll loan it to you after I'm done if you're interested. I have a feeling you'll pass on that though.

Oh BTW, I saw your comment on my Italian language skills. I took it in H.S. years ago and don't remember everything. I did use Google Translator for some of the words I had forgotten. I felt I should answer that inquiry. I had to mess with both you and Susie D the other night. It was fun.:)

<quoted text>
If you are free to take the liberty of deciding which words are literal and which are not, and to interpret those that you choose to call poetic as meaning whatever you like, every reader has a different take on what the bible says, and the words go from being the Word of God to the words of Ghost Writer, Aint, and each individual reader.
You choose to believe that the genesis account is metaphorical because you know some cosmology and geology, and you realize that barring magic, the universe didn't come to pass in six days. I know a little bit about medicine, and can tell you the same thing about resurrection from the dead. I reject that as literally true. If you don't, I'd say that you aren't taking "every possible variable into account."
You might object and say that I've gone too far because you understand the implications of that, but what possible argument could you offer me in rebuttal that a literalist (fundamentalist) couldn't make with you and your poetry model of the creation account?
If we ever have to stand before your god and give an account for why we felt that we had the right to declare any of it poetic and reinterpret it to taste, I'm going to tell him that you led me astray. Is that OK?
Just kidding. You can tell him it was my fault.
