It's quite easy to see when you know ancient history and cultural attitudes.
Everyone in the Roman Empire knew that non-Roman citizens would usually be executed by the practice of crucifixion. Standard Roman practice was to crucify condemned prisoners outside the city walls and along roads leading into cities as a warning to would be rebels and criminals. The implied message was: "Don't challenge Roman authority or this will happen to you."
The Roman empire usually appointed leaders from among the local population as a puppet government. Normally, the Roman Governor would select the most influential people from the conquered populace who were ready to bend their knees in submission to Rome. Corruption and greed were as normal in Roman politics as they are today in our own modern politics.
In first century Jerusalem, the religious leaders known as the Pharisees and Sadducees were the ruling religious and social elite, and were the members of the Jewish Sanhedrin. The Sanhedrin was comparable to what we would call the Senate. There are historical accounts that describe their corruption and alliance with their hated Roman occupiers.
'King Jannai said to his wife','Fear not the Pharisees and the non-Pharisees but the hypocrites who ape the Pharisees; because their deeds are the deeds of Zimri but they expect a reward like Phineas'.(Babylonian Talmud: Tractate Sotah 22b)
This brings us to the reason that the cross was viewed as a symbol of triumph over the greed and power of dark human failings. Romans believed that they represented deities. Many emperors even believed they were deities. Roman power and influence was believed to be invincible and was not to be challenged.
The cross was a symbol of all that was evil in the world, and it represented all that was hated about Rome. So when the disciples of Jesus experienced what they believed were resurrection appearances of the risen Jesus, it was seen as a triumph of both spirit and triumph over the hated Romans. They no longer had fear of death nor of Roman influence.
This is why Rome persecuted early Christians. The early Christians were basically "flipping off" the Romans by claiming that Jesus had risen after a Roman governor had sentenced Him to die in the most humiliating manner possible for a first century Palestinian Jew. It was viewed as a challenge to Roman authority. Kind of like saying "Hahaha you tried to kill our leader but it didn't work! Epic fail Roman dogs!!"
It was also a symbol of conquering death in a spiritual sense. And it was a Christian reminder to the Jewish Sanhedrin that they had wrongly condemned a man and it had failed.
That's the reasoning behind the symbolism.
That's correct, the early xtians were only 'claiming' that jesus rose from the dead.
They had NO evidence to provide the RE of their such claims.

If you get a chance, research on how the various crucifixions were carried out.
Jesus's one was not unique.

BTW, the symbol of the cross predates the xtian one thousands of years.
The Ancient called it the ANKH and the Sumerians before that called the cross 'the place of the crossing'.

Scientists lie when they preach something as a fact without knowing whether or not it's a fact.
Coffee is good for you, no it's bad, no wait it's good.
Wine is good for you, no it's bad, no wait it's good.
The universe is infinite, not it's finite, no now it's infinite again.
Look at the ninth planet on our solar system, no wait that's not a planet.
The atom is the smallest matter to exist, no wait it's the proton. No wait, it's the quark.
Until the 1950s, science lied to us, telling us that proteins were the key to our genetic material, now they say it's DNA. Are they right this time?
They taught that that bad air causes infections, no wait it's bacteria. Are they right this time?
Cigarettes were advertised as healthy in medical journals back in the 30s and 40s, now they say they aren't healthy. Are they right yet?
Up until 2005 (2005!), it was taught that stress causes ulcers, now they say it's bacterium. Are they right?
They told us the Piltdown chicken was real, then they said it was a hoax.
Science told us that cold fusion is the wave of the future, now they tell us that no one has created it.
Science used to tell us that chicken dung cured baldness, then they said it didn't.
Science should teach us nothing until they are 100% certain that what they're preaching is fact, or start with "We think this..." about everything they preach.
How many scientists have you gotten this information from?

ZERO!

It has been awhile since I checked in but it clearly looks like nothing has changed other than some new actors. Recently came across this and thought I would throw a little gasoline on the fire:

"If I only had a brain"

Scarecrow:
Why, If I had a brain, I could …

(singing)
I could understand a theory,
Of humans growin’ clearly,
Without the mark of Cain.
With the species all evolvin’
And the planets all revolvin’,
If I only had a brain

I’d forget about ‘creation’
And God over the nation,
And flush them down the drain,

Dorothy:
With an intellect so charmin’,
You could be another Darwin,
If you only had a brain.

Scarecrow:
Oh I, could tell you how, primates evolve to men.
I could tell you how the earth began and when, In thousand years, it’s more than ten!

I would be an unbeliever,
No “God I’m scared to see yer
Eternity in pain”
With some science & some reason,
I don’t really think it’s treason,
If you use your fricking brain.

It's pretty obvious what the tune should be.

Carry on, I'll be in the area from time to time.

On what evidence do you base *your* opinions?
PS, a lack of evidence is not evidence...
mmm:

if no investigation has been conducted, then a lack of evidence is not very indicative.

If a great deal of investigation has been conducted then a lack of evidence is an indictment.

Have you investigated God?

If so, how? What procedures did you use?

I have investigated the god.

I poked him with a stick.

He said "ouch."

That's evidence of something, I think.

No! The alternative for a death-denying coward like Ghost Writer would be learning to live without talking to himself multiple times daily and bravely accepting his own mortality. He's an utterly despicable coward who'll never be man enough to let go of his self-degrading and self-destructive delusions.

The Pentecostal speaking in tongues crap is just over 100 years old.
Prior to that, no Christian sect claimed to have that so called gift, afaik.
The giving of tongues was by the Holy Ghost in Jesus' time~ the beginning of the church~ Pentacost
