.
My cut and pasting begins here:
.
Two historians, American Joseph Atwill and the UK’s Kenneth Humphreys, will hold a symposium in London on Oct. 19, at which, they say, they’ll present new evidence that Jesus Christ never existed and that Christianity and the Gospels are fabrications invented by Roman Caesars of the first century.
.
The two scholars claim the plot was conceived as a means to redirect violent Jewish revolt against Roman authority into a peaceful (thereby ineffectual) movement, designed to control the hearts and minds of the Jewish population, and subverting rebellion against Rome without employing increasingly resource-draining military and political tactics.
.
And, they claim, it worked brilliantly then and continues to do so.
.
LOL! the only way to "prove" such a thing is if they had a time machine AND if they could disprove every miracle and rebirth anyone's received in the Name of Jesus for the last 2000+ years;)

RR, let me put it this way: Jesus is a concept of which I hate. I hate the fact that an astronomical sum of money has been channeled in the direction of perpetuating His mythology. I hate that the Jesus concept causes so much controversy throughout the world when His followers bump heads with people with different beliefs, and also how they are constantly proselytizing. And I hate how, ironically, His followers will look down on anyone who is intelligent enough to discredit His book of nonsense The Bible. It's the concept of the J man that I hate. Hating Jesus is like hating The Joker (another fictitious character whom I also hate).
U-huh....

So you've elected yourself "intelligent enough" to debate something you find as fictional as The Joker.

Find a "Prove There's a Joker" thread, go debate his evil plans, why don't ya?

Oh,that's right. You Jesus haters (that don't believe He even exists yet still hate the nonexistent) just love to quibble about your supposed non-beliefs....

I guess that, if Jesus returned and was again convicted and executed, Christians would start wearing a little syringe around the neck, or a tiny noose, or a teensy chair, depending on the country or state of residence.
That wouldn't happen. You liberals would delay the execution ad infinitum and he'd just sit on death row forever. Literally.

Catcher, when scientific fact and theories disprove the entire foundation of Christianity, as well as Judaism and Islam, the only thing these people can do is to try and discredit that which put them there. Science has unintentionally backed the followers of all Abrahamic religions into a corner, and all they can do is lash out at the facts, theories and common sense that contradicts their entire belief system.
That's nice.

But scientific fact has not disproven anything about Christianity, so...
The reason man has progressed from hunting and gathering to the somewhat advanced civilization that we are today, is because one day some really smart cave man started recording all of his tribe's collective knowledge into a "book of truth". Once this happened, man began to advance exponentially, as each generation no longer needed to relearn all the things his ancestors had previously learned. The recording of this knowledge became the first form of science. Each time someone learned something new, it would be "recorded" in "the book". Then one day something horrible happened: man invented religion, and the worst event in history occurred; someone put all these religious ideas into The Book of Truth, which totally corrupted it, and religious nuts have been at odds with scientists ever since. And even now, hundreds of thousands of years later, these nut jobs are STILL trying to get their convoluted ideas into The Book.
One can only imagine how advanced our civilization would be today had Christianity not put us into the dark ages for 700 years, and had all the money wasted on building churches etc. had been directed towards medicine and technology. And THIS my friend is why I hate the concept of Jesus.
What is "advanced" is relative. You may say we are an advanced civilization now, but people have been saying the same thing throughout the ages.

Ah, Topix atheist Nirvana is in sight.
No need to read their instructions. No bothersome gadgets.
They can just sit there in bliss while their scientists and politicians enlighten them. And tell them how much money to transfer to their accounts. What to do that day. How to do their day. A nice perfect and ordered existence.
You finally came close to hitting the nail on the head Dave. You just described a very accurate account of the daily life of a Christian. However you misplaced a couple words: insert "Christians" for "atheists" and "preachers" for "scientists and politicians". Never has there been a larger group of sheep in existence as the followers of the Abrahamic faiths. The Bible even instructs people to blindly follow like sheep, and defines a good person as one who has "faith".(faith = blind unsubstantiated beliefs).

No, that's not odd at all. Mother Theresa was a real person, and proof has emerged after her death that she was not the kind loving iconic saint people thought she was (did you even look at the link?). Satan is a fictitious character like Jesus, and I was obviously kidding about him. That really was obvious wasn't it? I shouldn't have to clarify this to you, but I actually didn't have drinks with him the other day (although when I woke up in the morning I did feel as though he had possessed me the night before). I'll have to be more careful when kidding around with you in the future.

Sounds about right.

Egging, yard hopping, racing through town. Oh, those days of irresponsibility you learn from. Or should have. Now they have it on video for your immediate enlightenment. No risk education.

Life can be so exciting.

Nothing like a newly empowered mind by your educators to have all the answers and know what it is all about, eh?

Shame it evaporates when you croak. All that learning gone to waste.

Nice post YHIR. When I first glanced at this I thought it was going to be one of the typical Creationist's rants, but I have to say, this is a very intelligent view of God and Creation. And interestingly, I think that most posters on both sides of this thread would have to agree with the majority of your post. What you said about thoughts and energy also makes good sense, although you have to admit, this is just conjecture for the most part... but then conjecture isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I perused the article, and that's all it was - an article. I'm not going to blindly believe what is written on done media blog thingy. You can, that's your choice.

I know you were joking about Satan, you missed the point. You compared Teresa & Satan in two deist are posts, demonizing Teresa and holding Satan on a pedestal. That I find odd.

But hey, you're doing exactly what Satan wants you to do.

It's intriguing that you and I have developed much the same view independently of the rough mechanics of existence. This is not a view you read in books. You have developed a more philosophical focus than I. I'm still in an observation and schematic following mode. I know there is a switch somewhere to lock things into place. Just not so sure about throwing it if I find it.
The world has gotten better in a lot of ways, but perhaps the growth has left it a tad dizzy. It has no direction to head toward but itself for now. It's sort of like a child growing up.
Funny, while I was reading this, I was thinking this sounds like a non-abrasive, non-arrogant, MUCH more intelligent version of what Dave claims to believe, without all the loud, convoluted background noise. But then, I think you just like being hated Dave, and you're very good at it.
