The conditions gave rise to fundamental laws? And what conditions are you speaking of? You are just trying to make your case sound more sophisticated than what it is. It is convenience.
And you are someone who expects a god to obey the laws of nature. So if such a god existed, would these "conditions" that gave rise to the universe had given rise to God as well? So you believe that if a god existed, it would be a created god?
a god reflective of your fetid imagination, is unlikely to exist

You are dumb.
How many ball breaking megalithic structures were built over countless generations in the name of religion? Lots of them.
If they didn't produce an effect worth the effort, they wouldn't have been done for countless generations. On this very forum I explained what that was and how it was transferred to a universal tap in to the universal creative force with Christianity and similar monotheistic religions.
You stupid man. You just can't get the fact those religious systems had to work in some fashion for them to have lasted so long.
Find me one atheistic civilization that lasted much more than a generation. Just one. Give yourself some credibility.
You are so profoundly, irreparably dumb. "They must be right, because they kept doing it." What?

So what other word should I use to describe your belief? Many atheists accuse theists of being intellectually lazy, yet many atheists would say numerous times "It just is!". The universe just is, life from non-life just is.
Now that is intellectual laziness. You believe in convenience, you believe in coincidence, you take it for granted that matter and energy behave in an ordered predictable way. That is ultimately your belief. You may not say it, you may not openly declare it and stand by it in public, but it's quite blatant that that is your default belief. If you do not believe in an uncreated Creator, then by default you believe in convenience.
that is merely your ignorant description

nothing is more convenient than the god you imagine.

That's Creationsim, not ID.
Creationists start with that concept, that there is a God.
ID'ers start with "something designed needs a designer".
Geez...
My goodness. And who is this "designer?" Are IDers open to the simulation argument formulated/popularized by Nick Boswell?

No, they're not. They aren't looking for a "designer," they are dressing up creationism with psuedo science and playing a culture wide game of semantics.

A scientific theory is supported by extensive research and repeated experimentation and observation in the natural world.
All known evidence indicates that matter is incapable of creating itself.
All evidence suggests that matter is not eternal.
All evidence indicates that inorganic matter is incapable of generating life.
All evidence indicates that no strictly material object has moral sensitivity.
All evidence indicates that objects characterized by design have been produced by an intelligent designer.
Intelligent Design researches these aspects of nature. Do evolutionsists?

One of the greatest illusions of our time, is the illusion of freedom and free thinking. Haha. An illusion created between those with power, and those without.
See how free you are, all conditioned with an aim to restrict others, like the "freethinking" Soviets. Bunch of imploding fools they turned out to be, with their communist and socialist dogma which the "free" anti-theists followed like slaves.
Why don't you go and kiss Stalin's statue on its butt, free boy?
the next world war, regardless what the combatants call themselves, will be fought by opposing armies each flying an abrahamic flag.

<quoted text>To be clear, I am familiar with teleological arguments, which is basically what you are doing here - I just have never heard one phrased so... bluntly. "The lack of evidence for god is evidence for god."
That is your words, not mine.

You need to state exactly what you are looking for. When you demand evidence of God, you demand to see some purpose, some intelligence. Yet when you see it and study it all around you in the elegant, intelligent laws that has produced and governs the universe today, you just dismiss it as "Oh that is just nature, not God". I'm not quoting you here, but that is the basic idea.

Are you looking for a man that flies about, breaking the laws of physics and nature in general? Do you wish to regularly see miracles? To see a person flying about performing miracles in and off itself is a constraint, because to see a singular form would mean that such a person is constrained in space, in that he cannot be everywhere at the same time. And if he cannot be everywhere at the same time, then he cannot be God, since he would never be all knowing or all seeing. Such a person may be an alien, like superman, but he could never be God.

Are you looking for a particular particle? Like a "God particle", that exists everywhere? If you found a new particle, why would you ever call it God? You would identify it, measure some properties, try to describe the nature of the particles, try to identify some order, give the particle a name, and that's the end of it.

Are you looking for some anomaly, like maybe your cat starts talking to you? Why would you believe that it is anything other than an incredibly whacky genetic mutation, especially knowing that in the womb we change from leeches, to fish and frog-looking species and then finally to resemble humans, during our DNA activation?

Or are you looking for a perfect world, a contradiction in and off itself? A contradiction because a perfect world necessitates that all creatures be stripped off choice. A world without choice is immediately a slave world, and hence imperfect.

So what is it exactly that you want from a God?
