Try physics. I learned Ohm's Law in physics and chemistry. You don't learn that concept in algebra or geometry.
The only thing I believe that 'if you don't use it, you lose it' is with a non-native foreign language. I took algebra classes 20 years apart and I remembered it like I had just learned it the first time.
My life took me to the construction site and away from higher mathematics.
My son just finished geometry in 11th grade, I couldn't help him with his homework - I forgot it all because I haven't used it in over 20 years.
