What "pressure" to believe in a deity?
I live in a town of over 300,000 people and I'm surrounded by towns to talking over 15 million people.
I've got a pretty good idea of what living in society means, but I've got no idea what "pressure" you're talking about to believe in God.
A Roman in Rome is hardly aware of the fact.

No, I have a complex understanding of emotions.

I just write a simple understanding of it - to convey the message easier.

That's just a tiny example. You don't realize how inundated american culture is with christianity because you are a christian.
And no one wants to "take away" your beliefs. If your belief in god depends on obnoxious public displays and school prayer then you have more important things to worry about.
"obnoxious public displays"?! Like gay parades?

"and school prayer"?!?!? Like teaching kids that Mr & Mr Smith are OK?

Romans chapter 12. Be a better christian, RR.
Oh, please. Which part of Romans 12? The part that says "Do not conform to the pattern of this world"?

Imagine for a minute, if for every 100 people, 98 were atheist, and every time you dared open your mouth about Jesus you were ridiculed, called evil, and told you should be tortured and killed.

I bet you can't even imagine that.

Nano?!
Oh no.
Nano is a wonderful, compassionate, loving and open person who respects ALL other opinions.
She would never make assertions without having firsthand knowledge to back them up.
You must be thinking of another nano.
Now I know that my cousin's daughter is just a lying, scheming bitch who only married a man for his money.(Which apparently failed), and that my mother is secretly atheist and that I am only not telling her that I'm atheist because I'm a wimpy coward and not because I don't want to remove whatever comfort she claims to get from believing that her fast approaching death will bring her into the waiting arms of Jesus, who she really doesn't believe in.
That's the sweet and wonderful nano that I know.
Your right. Nano only tells you these things out of love, of course.

Bullshit.
RR has never succumbed to peer pressure. Ever.
Feeling a need to "fit it" is a sign of a weak mind.
RR, again, there is a difference between heat of the moment peer pressure and the more pervasive, subtle social pressure that we feel everyday. If you wear clothes when you go outside or hold the door open for ladies, you have felt, and succumbed to social pressure. There is nothing wrong with that. That's part of being human.

There is a difference between a marginalized group staking a public claim to their rights and the majority group showing off their dominance.

Side note - why are so many of you guys worried about teaching kids that being gay is ok? Are you worried that they're just gonna snap and become gay out of the blue?
