He said that, but with some additional qualifiers that are often left out.
Here is a more complete account.
"This source of feeling, however, springs from the sphere of religion. To this there also belongs the faith in the possibility that the regulations valid for the world of existence are rational, that is, comprehensible to reason.
I cannot conceive of a genuine scientist without that profound faith. The situation may be expressed by an image: science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.
Though I have asserted above that in truth a legitimate conflict between religion and science cannot exist, I must nevertheless qualify this assertion once again on an essential point, with reference to the actual content of historical religions. This qualification has to do with the concept of God.
During the youthful period of mankind's spiritual evolution human fantasy created gods in man's own image, who, by the operations of their will were supposed to determine, or at any rate to influence, the phenomenal world. Man sought to alter the disposition of these gods in his own favor by means of magic and prayer.
The idea of God in the religions taught at present is a sublimation of that old concept of the gods. Its anthropomorphic character is shown, for instance, by the fact that men appeal to the Divine Being in prayers and plead for the fulfillment of their wishes.
Nobody, certainly, will deny that the idea of the existence of an omnipotent, just, and omnibeneficent personal God is able to accord man solace, help, and guidance; also, by virtue of its simplicity it is accessible to the most undeveloped mind. But, on the other hand, there are decisive weaknesses attached to this idea in itself, which have been painfully felt since the beginning of history.
That is, if this being is omnipotent, then every occurrence, including every human action, every human thought, and every human feeling and aspiration is also His work; how is it possible to think of holding men responsible for their deeds and thoughts before such an almighty Being?
In giving out punishment and rewards He would to a certain extent be passing judgment on Himself. How can this be combined with the goodness and righteousness ascribed to Him?
The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weakness, the Bible a collection of honorable, but still purely primitive, legends which are nevertheless pretty childish. No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this.
For me the Jewish religion like all others is an incarnation of the most childish superstitions. And the Jewish people to whom I gladly belong and with whose mentality I have a deep affinity have no different quality for me than all other people.
As far as my experience goes, they are no better than other human groups, although they are protected from the worst cancers by a lack of power. Otherwise, I cannot see anything 'chosen' about them.
Now that I have quite openly stated our differences in intellectual convictions it is still clear to me that we are quite close to each other in essential things, i.e. in our evaluation of human behavior ... I think that we would understand each other quite well if we talked about concrete things." - Albert Einstein in a letter to Eric Gutkind
I think that examples what Einstein felt about religion and deities.
Does having a big role model to worship and agree with make you feel better about yourself and have a better feeling of self worth? I'm sorry, he isn't credible, does that destroy your self esteem?

Love is not a chemical reaction.
Attraction and lust maybe.
But Love is an emotion based on many things , one being survival.
Just think what a mother would do to protect her children.
Love is also accumulative, it is based on past experiences.
Love is a complicated blend of things.
Emotions come from God himself, a pool of slime and a huge explosion of electrons can't buy anything close to love.

i don't have a problem with the agnostic aspect simply because the ABSOLUTE is only knowable to the ABSOLUTE.

in that respect, i'm an agnostic myself.

No child. Agnostic is a person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God. BIG difference.

There's no proof that exists of the Invisible Pink Unicorn's nonexistence either. Does that make her real?

My office is three blocks from LAPD headquarters. You should see that place--dozens of black-and-whites, SUVs, snipers on the roof, helicopters buzzing, TV trucks all around the block. Police are dropping just about everything else for this. On full alert.
And the manhunt has yielded nothing. The guy knows what he's doing.
Sadly, I don't think he's hiding in Big Bear. He's had way too much time to plan it out. He's just waiting, preparing the hunt. He's accomplished "the first stages of warfare, preparation, knowing his enemy and their tactics, knowing to be patient, confuse the enemy by using deception, feign attacks and produce chaos and by doing so introduce fear into the enemies' heart."
On my way to work yesterday I was detoured off the 15 south on my way to the 91. I hadn't realized that a gun battle had ensued on the overpass.
When I was getting out if the car, a Riverside motorcycle officer slowed down, nodded then waved at me as I crossed the street. I thought it strange but thinking back I guess he thought I was a cop as my jacket and slacks closely resemble one, especially in the dark of the morning.
I could hear the CHP which is right behind my building constantly hit the sirens and just haul butt out of there all day.
On my way home on the northbound 15 I counted no less than 11 K-9 units rushing northbound in a hurry to some unknown destination.
It's been surreal to say the least.

would you settle for a pink elephant? centaurs and minotaurs will be provided at a later date with options for color, sex, and size.
