Yup.
It's meant to demonstrate how people react without thinking things through. As you said (in another post), the wording itself, the seeming simplicity of it, tells a “thinker” it's designed to incite an incorrect response... whereas fools, on the other hand,“rush in”... so to speak.
I remember it from a podcast... think it was “The Skeptic's Guide to the Universe”... not sure.
From that same episode (whichever podcast it was), I remember something else that was interesting, though not in the same way. It was math related, but just a curiosity with no “trickery” involved.
It had to do with taking a pie and cutting it into three equal pieces.
Each piece is 1/3rd of the whole. The decimal representation is .3333333...(infinite repeating threes).
If the three pieces are put back together, it equals one whole pie again... but, if you multiply .333333... by 3, it equals .999999...(infinite repeating nines). It doesn't equal 1.
It was intended to “prove” that .999999... in practice, actually does equal 1.
Nothing “mind blowing” in that, I'll agree... but, it made me think of Buck with his pizza that he insisted, if sliced in to infinite pieces, would “fill the universe”... which is bullsh!t b'cuz if any actual quantity, in that case “1”, is divided by infinity... ya wind up with nothing.
At the least, you'd wind up with a number so arbitrarily close to zero... that, in practice... it would be zero.
In actuality, to fill the universe, Buck would have to divide his pizza by zero... that doesn't work though. He'd have to divide by a number so arbitrarily close to ze..........
I'll shut up now.
Ahahaha!!!! Hey Hukt, i'd forgotten all about Buck's infinite pizza....

No, the prayer is just the beginning.
It doesn't matter how old you are, 7 or 70 you still start at prayer.
God's smarter than you, He won't answer a dishonest prayer.
You have yet to prove such a being exists to answer *any* sort of prayer.

You're the expert... give me an example of a *dishonest* prayer.

Yes- I see the sky- the sky APPEARS/LOOKS blue to me. Yes- I PERCEIVE the color of the sky as blue.
However, and for the LAST time, what we see the color of the sky AS does not mean that is what the color of the sky IS.
And sorry, bub- but in reality, the sky is NOT blue or black or any other color.
Look- don't keep arguing with me about this- google it for yourself or else READ the information I provided for you as to WHY when we look at the sky, the sky APPEARS to be blue.
Geesh!
Or- maybe your pal Nano can explain it to you better, since she also told you basically the same thing as I did.
Yeah- you're a REAL smart man, huh?
PFFT.
My FEMALE CAT is smarter than YOU are.
OMG!

Welcome back to 7th gwade.

WHY IS THE SKY BLUE?

"The blue color of the sky is due to Rayleigh scattering. As light moves through the atmosphere, most of the longer wavelengths pass straight through. Little of the red, orange and yellow light is affected by the air.

However, much of the shorter wavelength light is absorbed by the gas molecules. The absorbed blue light is then radiated in different directions. It gets scattered all around the sky. Whichever direction you look, some of this scattered blue light reaches you. Since you see the blue light from everywhere overhead, the sky looks blue."

If I don't have to tell you then you should know that Catholics are very different than Christians.
They may be a part of Christianity, but they certainly aren't Christians.
"The Catholic Church, also known as the Roman Catholic Church, is the world's largest Christian church, with more than one billion members worldwide." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholic_Church

"The three primary divisions of Christianity are Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, and Protestantism."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christianity#Maj...

Remember, I went through this with you once before when you asserted that Evangelical Christians and Pentecostals were not Protestants. It was at that time I went through the different expressions of Christianity with you.

Catholics are Christians, Ar Ar.

Yes it was. Jefferson “took away” from scripture. The book he took away from said not to do that.
<quoted text>
Why do you think what he called it matters? You brought that up.
<quoted text>
Didn't say he rejected Jesus *or* the moral teachings attributed to him.
He did reject the divinity of you your savior. To Jefferson, Jesus was just a man... not a “Christ”(in the sense of what that title entails).
<quoted text>
Beside the point.
He rejected the divinity of your savior. He rejected the Trinity. He rejected miracles. He rejected Original Sin. He rejected the Immaculate Conception. He rejected the Resurrection........
It could even be argued that Jefferson was guilty of (the) Unforgivable Sin... according to some of your contemporary “peeps”.
<quoted text>
What makes you so sure he'd consider you as one of his peeps?
<quoted text>
Jefferson's dead. You and I will also be dead, eventually.
Anything beyond that is conjecture and nothing more.
---
The truth is, neither you or I really know where Jefferson stood on the matter.
I realize that.
Do you?
Of course I realize that. But according to what I've read & studied, Jefferson wrote himself an abridged version of the Bible - less the "miracles".

Again, he wrote it for himself. Actually he didn't "write" it, he copy & pasted different parts of it together to omit the miracles performed by Jesus.

There was conjecture that he did the rewrite for the Indians, so they could better understand it. ZBut that is just conjecture & not fact.
