Yes, actually.
My employer, like many others, Likes to pretend they want their employees to be healthy. They use "get healthy" tactics to try to get people to "live a healthier life". They charge cigarette smokers an extra $50 a month but our five vending machines in the break room are filled with crap like candy bars, chips, disgusting vending machine cheeseburgers and burritos, energy drinks, soda, etc.
I don't understand why people just can't be honest and say They don't like the smell of cigarette smoke.
You have to use tactics like you want to live healthier and you want me to live healthy too so you help the government enact all kinds of new laws to try to prevent people from smoking.
That's not following my right to my own pursuit of happiness.
You should stick to your own life and stay out of mine.
you do not care about anyone other than yourself

why would you expect different behviour from others?

your cigarettes polute the air that others must breath.
Look, when you smoke, do not exhale, and I will support your right to smoke
When you realize that campfires, grills, fireplaces, combustible engines, etc. pollute the air far more than a cigarette then I will support your right to not be a hypocrite.

What are the odds of your house burning to the ground? Is everybody who buys fire insurance paranoid to you? I would be willing to bet you that we have more predatory acts of violence and home invasions in CT then we do houses that burn.

There was just a home invasion in the next town over from me, a very exclusive town. Too bad the home owners weren't "paranoid", we might have one less predator walking the streets.

A few months back there was a home invasion in Sharon, CT, another wealthy rural town. They kicked in the front door and tied up a man and his elderly mother. They robbed the home but first shot the tied up man in the head, killing him. Your see Karl, our "paranoia" is justified by these heinous acts. Sociopaths are not like god, we have proof that they really do exist and in good numbers. Call me paranoid on this subject if you want and I'll call you ignorant. My loaded shotgun, amongst others gives me peace of mind.

Then they use that stolen vehicle to run over a couple people and kill them.
Who's responsibility do you think that is?
did you fail to secure your car?

my lawyer thinks that is the case.

the thief hit my child with your car, the child lived, the suit is for ten million.

if it changes operators, it then becomes a liability problem for the owner.
Not where I live it doesn't. We have no law in CT that requires guns be kept in a vault. If it is in your home and is stolen you are not liable.

Well, if you wanted to have a campfire at your desk or run your gas powered generator, as your co-worker I would have a problem with that as well...

<quoted text> Ultimately your insurance , provided the thief had none. But to be honest...this is America injured people have lawyers that sue everybody.
The problem is the gun in a drawer in your own house , is protected the same as a knife or dynamite in it. It was never to leave the premises and only entered the public arena because of theft.
To suing someone for being a victim is the same as...
Suing the bank who's robber used the money he stole , to pay a hitman to kill someone. In a wrongful death suit.
It is possible , but you would have to prove the bank was negligent in leaving money to be stolen.
my lawyer disagrees, even if you win, you will be looking at tens of thousands in court costs.

the suit is civil, and for millions gosh I hope you have enough insurance.

What about the other employees, they don't count? So a person with breathing issues doesn't count? He should have to drive an extra 30 miles to find the same kind of business where no smoking is allowed?
The fact that this obnoxious habit of smoking is legal is irrelevant to the subject. It's legal to cover yourself in skunk spray too if you want to. The fact is that it is obnoxious and should no more be allowed then you to be allowed to blast loud music where ever you want to. It's called being a considerate person. If we were all considerate we would not need no smoking laws, but unfortunatley we do.

I don't understand why you won't acknowledge that a burglar can steal anything in your home and use it as a weapon....
and you do not understand that guns are designed to kill, and baseball bats are just for fun.

how about dynamite, if I leave a couple of cases of TNT out in the front yard and some Middle Eastern terrorists steal it then blow up a building killing hundreds of Americans, I shouldn't be liable...at least according to you.
tell me where does personal responsibility come into play???
RR is a christian, that is the entirety of his responsibility

he is (often) not right, but he is forgiven

he leaves loaded weapons lying about, to prove that he has a penis

It doesn't matter what the bat or guns "primary purpose" is.
The point is that they were stolen from you & used in a crime.
It also doesn't matter if they were locked up or not, they were STOLEN from you.
Your exterior doors are locked, so YES they were locked up...
my lawyer disagrees
