F_ck that.
You would even smoke in somebody's home if they requested that you not?!

Really?!

Yes, the rational, considerate, intelligent people have determined that and you're outnumbered.

I'm just keeping the playing field even.
What "playing field"?

Keeping it "even"?

That's not what you're doing. The discussion was/is about smokers vs non-smokers (I guess; not sure). You're changing the topic to obesity.

Why?

Keep in mind...

> I've worked for a major tobacco company... shouldn't be too difficult to figure out which one.

> My grandfather was a tobacco farmer. I picked tobacco in my youth.

> The state of North Carolina (my state)... might not even exist (as it is) if not for drug trade. Tobacco made this state.

Despite the above, I'm more-or-less disinterested in the topic... except for one angle...

When it comes to your drugs of choice (nicotine and alcohol), you support the drug trade. Do you deny this fact?

If you get to enjoy your beer and butts... why are you in favor of NOT allowing another to enjoy, say, Mountain Dew and marijuana?

(If that's the case. I seem to remember you being opposed to legalization of marijuana).

Other than your right wing pro-gun web sites, there has never been any unbiased documentation regarding that. I checked the FBI figures and it wasn't there. Checked other places too. I think it's just a half truth.

Great idea. Smokers should put a plastic bag over their head when they smoke. I'd vote for that too.

No argument about it. A gun is designed and manufactured for one purpose
Yes, to shoot bullets.
My point is that a car is not designed and manufactured to kill, the comparison is not valid
The argument is that a car CAN be used to kill, just like a gun.
This guy shooting schoolchildren, does he have a gun?
What guy? And if he's "shooting" , he probably has a gun.
Guns in the correct, licensed and supervised hands have a place to counter those nutcases to disrespect civilisation.
Even a gun in an unlicensed and unsupervised hand can counter the nutcases.
Guns in the hands of some nutcase with a chip on his shoulder and a bad hair day do not have a place.
Agreed. Lets find & eliminate the nutcases.
Unfortunately in some countries the guy with a chip on his shoulder has just as much right to wield a gun as the military and law officers.
So find the nutcases & we don't have a problem.
You just don’t seem to see the destination and are willing to sanction illogical comparisons just to keep your killing tool. If you can’t do it logically you are not fit to carry that gun.
You don't get to determine who is or isn't "fit" to carry a gun. So sorry.

<quoted text>
I cannot understand the mindset of these people who think that a business owner should be permitted to run his buinsess so some of his patrons will die, who go there reguarly, because of the smoke they had to breathe. I unfortunately was in Penn in 2005 with my ex visiting her uncle, a Canadian born but American retired cop.
He was a heavy smoker, as was his girlfriend (his wife had died of cancer a few years before - likely related to his smoking). He was telling us of a nephew, my partner's cousin, who had visited, and he caught he and his wife opening their bedroom window, because they couldn't stand the smoke, and he was insulted that someone would come into his home and think they can open someone's window because they don't like the owner's smoke.
He took us to a privte club (at least back then people were cheating the no smoking rules by privatizing their clubs and charging a $5 fee for a membership so only members, who presumably wanted to smoke could get in), to deliver some Cuban cigars to the club owner, as my girlfriend had purchased them as a favor to her uncle, and of course having Cuban cigars in the USA is a crime in itself.
Though I was a guest and went along to not rock the boat, in my gf's uncle's place, I could see the hypocrisy. They took us someplace in their car, I think to catch a bus to NYC where we went on a day trip, as I had never been there before, and he saw in the mirror that my gf was making faces because of the smoke in the car. So he grudgingly made some comment to his gf that they should put out their cigarettes, because his niece doesn't like the smoke, even though it is in his own car.
Just no common sense, or maybe no sense at all.
Ah yes, anecdotal evidence. I got one for you. Sand boxes at playgrounds.
* Silica / Sand: Lung cancer. Yes, sand is now an "official" EPA carcinogen
How about this one?
Some guy went to the bathroom.
Human feces: Several known carcinogens, including those derived from bile salts
